Palestinian terror yesterday . . .

If you were an Israeli driver of a car at any of these locations, you were likely attacked by terrorists trying to kill you with firebombs and “rocks”: Husan, Betar, Al Khader, Nahlin, Issawiya, Kiryat Arba, Aotzrin, Deir Jarir, Idna, Halhul, Havat Gilad, Qaalandiya, Hizma, Hawara, Ma’ale Amos, Deir Nizan, Migdalot, Havat Gilad, and Karmi Tzur.

And none of the above even includes the numerous attacks that took place against IDF and other security forces.

What’s going on with Israel Hayom (Israel Today)?

Anyone who lives in Israel or visits is familiar with the workers garbed in red overalls and wearing a red hat who stand on virtually every street corner giving out free copies of the newspaper Israel Hayom. It is a distribution of free newspapers that has severely impacted other newspapers such as Haaretz and Yedioth Aharonot.

And that was the point. Owned by Sheldon Adelson, the pro-Netanyahu Israel Hayom has been clearly focused on its mission of reducing readers of the anti-Netanyahu newspapers mentioned above.

However, recent revelations of secret negotiations between Netanyahu and the publisher of Yediot Aharonot may have rubbed Adelson the wrong way as has acrimony between Netanyahu and the editor of Israel Hayom regarding stories and pictures involving Sara Netanyahu. In addition, the paper, which always expected to lose money has been doing so massively, with to-date losses now estimated at about 1 billion shekels.

In any case, at the beginning of this past December, Israel Hayom cut the number of papers being printed each day by 50,000. Beginning on January 1, the newspaper has now further reduced the number of papers published on Friday and distributed on weekends.

Here We Go Again: Trump Backpedals on the Embassy

There was a moment yesterday when various reports, none confirmed, seemed to show that an announcement was imminent concerning the movement of the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Here on israelstreet, we even ran a breaking news item to that effect. It appeared that President Trump was about to carry through on a promise that Israelis had waited a long time to be fulfilled.

But then, just as quickly as our hopes were raised, they were dashed.

Numerous reports have now indicated that the Embassy movement is taking a back seat to . . . hold your breath . . . “the peace process.” NBC News in the United States reported yesterday that Trump officials say that the Embassy isn’t going anywhere soon, and that the Trump Administration priority is to reach a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians.

Your humble servant is beginning to feel ill.

Sean Spicer, Trump’s new press secretary, soon confirmed that Embassy movement is way back on the back burner: “We are in the very beginning stages of even discussing this subject.”

Your humble servant is feeling sicker by the minute.

And then came Benjamin Netanyahu who made these points after his 30 minute conversation with Trump last night.

*The conversation focused on Iran.

*Israel must not take “knee-jerk” reactions (aka “annexation plans” are going nowhere).

*Moving the Embassy was not discussed.

Your humble servant is now downright ill.

Because he is beginning to smell a rat. The Bibi Netanyahu rat. Isn’t it amazing that Netanyahu’s talking points after the conversation are precisely those points that Netanyahu wanted President Trump to say.

If we have said it once on this blog, we have said it a hundred times. Benjamin Netanyahu is wedded to the status quo, and will fight tooth and nail to keep it–even if a proposed change is to Israel’s benefit.

It is a sad commentary that Netanyahu has now apparently brought Donald Trump into his “Israel status quo ideology” camp.

Oh sure. We will continue to hear noises that the Embassy may one day be moved. For example, there is a report that the U.S. has sent an architect to Jerusalem to scout out possible locations, and don’t forget that new American Ambassador to Jerusalem David Friedman will talk endlessly about it. Friedman can talk as much as he wants to, but seeing is believing.

Meanwhile, here we go again with “the peace process.”

Your humble servant is now completely ill and must be excused.
