Does Israel Now Have A Laser Air Defense System?
Israel Defense Minister Naftali Bennett issued this statement today:
“The Israeli mind continues to lead to breakthrough innovation. The laser project will make the security system lethal, powerful, and more advanced. This is a significant element in fortifying the security of the Sate of Israel.
Alongside weapons of war that already exist add the sword of the laser against threats, north and south. We are making progress in full swing. And the clear message: Israel has great capabilities, defense and attack. Israel’s enemies are better off not testing our patience and capabilities.”
Click here to see a video that was posted by the Defense Ministry’s Directorate of Defense two days ago.
If you watched the video, you can easily see that a laser defense system would be a game changer.
A huge game changer.
Suddenly, those 150,000 Hezbollah and Iranian missiles pointed at Israeli targets would not seem so ominous. Suddenly, all the missiles fired out of Gaza would be of no consequence.
Suddenly, Israelis would be much safer.
But let’s not put the cart before the horse, and not ramp up expectations without seeing reality. Israel has been talking about a laser system for years, but nothing ever emerged.
Does Israel really have a laser system now? Bennett’s statement is vague and suggests perhaps not (We are making progress in full swing). It echoes a famous Israeli slang expression “Anakhnu be derech” (We are on the way) which Israelis use all the time to indicate they are on the way to an appointment but haven’t gotten there yet.
Let’s hope that “Anakhnu po”: We are here.
