The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours in Judea and Samaria:

*Masked Palestinian terrorists armed with knives stopped a family driving along Road 446 near Na’alin. In the ensuing struggle, the father was rendered unconscious, and one of the children was wounded. In the end, the terrorists stole the car and left the family beside the road.

*There were numerous Palestinian “rock” and Molotov attacks such as an attack on Egged bus 188 on Road 55 near Azzun. In that attack, the bus driver was wounded as was a young female passenger who was hit in the face by shattered glass from a window.

Rain, rain, and more rain . . .

The last time there was this much rain in northern and southern Israel was in 1969. Nahariya and Haifa have received more than 100 mm of rain in the last two weeks while 122 mm has fallen in Nitzanim in the south. So much water has poured into the Kineret (Sea of Galilee), that the island that appeared there several years ago has been covered.

Ongoing Knesset games . . .

So now that we are involved in yet another election campaign, the question of the moment is all about PM Netanyahu’s request for immunity from prosecution from the Knesset (a temporary immunity only until the new Knesset to be elected dissolves).

Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein is still delaying forming a “House Committee” to consider the immunity request. You will recall that the House Committee must consider the request before it is voted on by the Knesset.

So where does this leave us?

The Kahol Lavon (Blue and White) Party of Benny Gantz is now threatening to vote Edelstein out of office so that someone else will proceed with forming the Committee.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Once More Into The Abyss: The “Two State Solution”

How is it possible that the world just doesn’t get it?

How is it possible that the world refuses to accept the reality that there are two Palestinian states west of the Jordan River?

Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria have been a functioning Palestinian country since the Oslo Accords were signed in 1994. The Palestinians have their own flag, their own national anthem, their own Parliament, their own civil administration, and their own de facto army (aka the PLO police). They supposedly hold their own elections and collect taxes. They control every aspect of society including religious and educational institutions.

How exactly are Areas A and B not “Palestine”?

Gaza has been a fully functioning Palestinian country since Israel evacuated from every square millimeter in 2005. Every word that we just wrote about Areas A and B apply to Gaza as well.

How exactly is Gaza not “Palestine”?

In the case of Areas A and B, your humble servant’s point about “Palestine” was driven home by the Israel High Court of Justice two days ago in response to a petition concerning a residence built by an Israeli in Area B who was asking the Court to stop the demolition of his home.

The Court ruled that all matters pertinent to construction in Area B “is in the hands of the Palestinian Authority . . . [because] Area B is the territorial authority of the Palestinian Authority.”

And so, as much as we may dislike it, it is.

Which is why it infuriates your humble servant to hear anti-Israel forces to on and on about how there needs to be “a two-state solution.” There is in reality a three-state solution unless you want to count Gaza and Areas A and B as onewhich the Palestinians themselves do not.
