A coup attempt in Jordan? King Abdullah’s half-brother says no, but the Jordanians say yes.

That half-brother, Prince Hamzeh bin Hussein, the oldest son of former King Hussein and his American wife Queen Noor, sent out a satellite transmission detailing how he had been put under house arrest with his entire security detail taken away.

At last count more than 20 of Hussein’s friends and guards have been arrested while an “investigation” takes place.

If this all sounds familiar, it should. Internecine family struggles take place all the time in the Arab world. Just think about what happened in Saudi Arabia last year.

Down To The Wire: Recommendations To Rivlin Tomorrow

Tomorrow is the day on which the heads of the political parties go to President Rivlin and tell him which person each supports to form a governing coalition.

As you can imagine, the media is rife with reports from all directions about what will take place, some of it based on fact other not:

*Bezalel Smotrich said this morning that there is no way that his right-wing National Union Party will be in a coalition with the Islamist Israeli-Arab Party Raam. This statement means that there is no way that Netanyahu can reach 61 votes in a majority government.

*Some politicians on the right are coalescing around the idea that a Naftali Bennett led government consisting of right, center, and even some left parties is better than Israel going to another election.

*A contingent of Likud members appears to be urging PM Netanyahu to step down as Prime Minister candidate and instead become Israel’s next president when President Rivlin steps down this summer.

*For his part, PM Netanyahu is steadfastly insisting that somehow he will manage to put together a coalition, and if there is one thing we’ve learned over the years, it is to never bet against Netanyahu.
