The daily Corona (Covid-19) update . . .

833,707 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.

There are 426 newly confirmed cases.

6,220 have died–an increase of 6

There are currently 6,581 active Corona cases.

5,252,718 have been vaccinated (4,804,891 of these have received two shots).

According to the data released this morning, 1 in every 10,000 Israelis aged 60 and over who have received two doses of vaccine has died. 1 in every 1,000,000 Israelis aged 60 and under have died after receiving two doses.

We are approaching the day on which we will no longer have the daily Corona update. Mostly good news: daily deaths are down, active cases are down, critically ill are down, newly confirmed cases are down.

Not such good news is the fact that the number of those getting vaccinated each day has dramatically slowed. In fact, 1,019,000 Israelis 16 years of age and older have not been vaccinated.

Out to nature! . . . and dumping garbage along the way . . .

The Jewish National Fund has reported that more than 2 million Israelis have picnicked and hiked in KKL-JNF forests during Passover.

After they departed, JNF workers and foresters picked up more than 500 tons of garbage they left behind.

What’s New On The Political Front?

Yamina head Naftali Bennett met with Likud head Benjamin Netanyahu for three hours Friday morning.

The meeting was called by Netanyahu who is afraid that President Rivlin will ask Bennett to try to form a coalition even though Bennett’s party only won 7 seats in the election. Netanyahu’s nightmare is that Bennett will somehow be able to form a right-wing coalition which doesn’t include Likud–or that includes renegade Likud members who would be only too happy to join a true right-wing government.

Again, it is important to remember that the following parties are actually right wing: Yamina (7), National Zionism (7), Yisrael Beiteinu (7), New Hope (6) for a total of 27. Add to this number the religiously conservative parties Shas (9), and UTJ (7) and Bennett might have 43.

Where would the other 18 seats come from to reach 61? They would have to come from breakaway members of Likud, Yesh Atid, and Blue and White. All of this seems far-fetched at the moment, but who knows?
