UPDATES: 7:00 pm, Israel time

–>Palestinian terror today.

It has been another day (so far) of more than 30 Palestinian attacks against Israeli children, women, and men.

Some of the worst of the attacks have involved Molotov firebombs including one which occurred on Road 443 at 5:57 pm, another at Balata at 5:50 pm, and yet another on the road to Ma’aleh Adumim at 1:32 pm. In the latter attack, a 40-year-old man was badly burned in his lower torso and had to be rushed to Sha’are Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem.

“Rock” attacks have targeted Israelis in such locations as Dehaisha, Batzira, Sur Baher, and the Jerusalem neighborhoods of Sur Baher, Ras al-Amud, and Beit Hanina.

–>The increasing level of religious observance in Israel.

The Municipality of Jerusalem began distributing information to all businesses in the city that as of April 1, all businesses will be closed on Saturdays.

If you have ever traveled to Jerusalem, you know that most businesses are already closed in Jerusalem on Saturday, but this is the first time that there has been a blanket order applying to all businesses.

–>A hilarious exchange in the Knesset today.

Arab-Israeli legislator Basel Ghattas demanded that Education Minister Naftali Bennett explain why he always carries a gun. It should be remembered that Bennett served as a company commander in the elite IDF Sayeret Matkal and Maglan units. He remains a Major in the IDF reserves.

Bennett simply responded: “I carry a gun to shoot terrorists.”

Ghattas was left with nothing to say.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Two good things happened in Israel today. Two very good things.

The scene in Hebron a few hours ago. This confrontation is between Jewish community members who are on the steps of a building they just purchased and IDF troops who are trying to hold Palestinian rioters at bay.

The scene in Hebron a few hours ago.  Jewish community members who are on the steps of a building they purchased six years ago are explaining that purchase to IDF troops who are trying to hold Palestinian rioters at bay.

First, Jewish community members living in Hebron surprisingly and forcibly moved into a building complex beside the Cave of the Patriarchs which they had secretly bought from Palestinians back in 2009.

The purchase was made in secret because the Palestinian sellers would be killed on the spot by the PLO if the transaction were made public. Nevertheless, the building has been empty for the last six years.

You can imagine what ensued today.

Other Palestinians living in the area attacked the new owners, and the former owners of the building suddenly claimed that they had not sold the building–despite their signatures on papers to the contrary and despite the fact that they haven’t lived there for a half decade.

As of this hour, a large contingent of IDF soldiers is on hand separating the Jewish community members from the Palestinians.

It is expected that 10 Jewish families will move into the building.

Second, on a much larger scale, Israel announced that 1500 dunams (370 acres) of land in Area C near the entrance to Jericho are being declared “state land.” The announcement was shockingly made by the usually abominable IDF COGAT unit.

Area C near Jericho.

Area C near Jericho.

If you recall a blog on israelstreet last week, Palestinians–with the financial backing of the European Union–have been building an illegal road from the E1 area near Ma’aleh Adumim to the northern tip of Dead Sea. The new state land is at the northern tip of the Dead Sea.

The 370 acres are already being farmed by Jewish community members in Vered Yeriho. No Palestinians live there.

Your humble servant can only hope that this unexpected move is the beginning of a much larger effort to annex Area C of Judea and Samaria–an annexation that we have long advocated.

As you can imagine, this action has immediately raised a hue and cry from the Obama Administration and the European Union. The European Union is particularly incensed because Israel has also embarked upon a campaign of destroying Palestinian structures in Area C which were illegally built by the E.U.

In sum, whether it is 1 building complex in Hebron or 370 acres at the northern tip of the Dead Sea, the land of Israel is being reclaimed.

That is a good thing. A very good thing.
