UPDATES: 7:00 pm, Israel time

–>Palestinian terror today.

It has been a quiet day in Israel today unless you think about:

*A thwarted terror attack coordinated by Hezbollah. Shin Bet announced that it has uncovered a cell of 5 Palestinians in Israel led from Lebanon by the son of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. Numerous weapons were found including suicide belts, explosives, rifles, and ammunition.

*A thwarted stabbing at Anun beside Mt. Hebron. At 1:15 this afternoon, a Palestinian armed with a knife was captured by alert IDF soldiers.

*An IDF soldier wounded by gunfire near Tulkarm in northern Samaria.

*Palestinian riots occurring in Yatma, Aotzrin, Al Khader, Turmusayya, and in the Ras al-Amud neighborhood in Jerusalem.

*Palestinian “rock” and Molotov assaults on Israelis at Shuafat, Nahaliel, Sawiya, the Tapuach Junction, Tekoa, Maale Amos, Rachel’s Tomb, Al Khader, Beit Ummar, and numerous other places.

And the day is not over yet.

–>The fallout from the UVDA program continues.

You may remember, dear reader, that the Israeli documentary news program UVDA telecast a piece last week in which undercover cameras revealed that the Israeli leaders of the left-wing “human rights” organizations Taayush and B’Tselem were involved with turning in Palestinians who wanted to sell land to Jews to the PLO for torture and execution.

Not only turning them in, but bragging about it afterwards.

The next day, one of those leaders, Ezra Nawi, was arrested at Ben Gurion Airport as he was trying to leave the country. He remains in detention. Shortly thereafter a second, unnamed “leftist” was also arrested.

This morning another arrest was made–this time a Palestinian who was apparently involved in the turning in of Palestinians.

–>More anti-Israel activities by Israeli leftists.

It was revealed today that Machsom Watch, an all-female Israeli “human rights” organization which “specializes” in creating provocations at Israeli checkpoints (where most of the terrorist knifings, bulldozing, and shooting attacks occur) produces detailed daily, even hourly updates to Palestinians about the number of soldiers at each checkpoint, where they are located at the checkpoint, and traffic flow at each checkpoint.

Each piece of this information can be used to attack Israeli soldiers.

And none of it is legal to publish.

How do they get away with it? Simple. Because Israel’s ultra-left wing Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein allows it.

The good news is that Weinstein’s 7 year term of office comes to an end on January 31.

–>What to do when the information from Israel and the world gets you down.

As regular readers of israelstreet know, your humble servant spends six months of each year in northern California where he devotes much of his time to pro-Israel activism.

A considerable portion of that activism is directed against the self-proclaimed “human rights” groups in the area which devote their time to attacking Israel in every conceivable venue. Yesterday, we discovered that the so-called “Sacramento Peace Coalition” would be demonstrating against Israel on a street corner in the capital of California, Sacramento.

Armed with Israeli flags and posters, a small group of four of us decided to go on the offensive. We arrived at the street corner before the “human rights” group and starting waving our flags and encouraging motorists to honk their support for Israel.

The results were amazing. Nonstop honking, expressions of thumbs up, expressions of victory exhilarated us! People stopped on the sidewalk and told us how happy they were to see us.

An Assemblymember from the California Legislature came to us and told us he is introducing a bill to prohibit any contracts or agreements between California and any entity that supports BDS. He asked us to speak at the Assembly when the bill comes up for debate.

That Assemblymember is Travis Allen of California’s 72nd District.

He is the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Banking & Finance. You should contact him and voice your support (email: assemblymember.allen@assembly.ca.gov).

Another person who embraced us was a businessman who insisted on putting down his briefcase and waving a flag with us.

The businessman on the left with two of our group (the Christian member of our group was unable to come but we still had her sign).

The businessman on the left with two of our group (the Christian member of our group was unable to come but we still had her sign).

A teenaged group wanted small Israeli flags, and on and on.

What was really funny was what happened with the group opposing us showed up and had to relocate from their usual spot to the other side of the street.  Drawing virtually no attention they stood their glumly with their motley collection of signs and causes which included the usual “occupation” and “torture” canards against Israel.

They were frankly pathetic.

And in a crude attempt to attract attention, they also had signs for  “Black Lives Matter”, “Gay Rights”, and the wacko “9/11 No Plane Evidence” (the “truther” movement”).

To sum it up, we had a great day which lifted our spirits and left us eager to get out there again. You should try it sometime!

TODAY’S BLOG:

The coordinated attack on Israel from the United States and the European Union continues.

A day after U.S. Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro accused Israel of being an apartheid state (“there seem to be two standards of adherence to the rule of law: one for Israelis and another for Palestinians”) and a day after the European Union began its “boykott” of Israel products, the Obama State Department added gasoline to the fire with another attack on Israel declaring that it fully supported Shapiro and the E.U.

Here’s what State Department spokesman John Kirby said yesterday about Shapiro’s rant:

“He was simply reiterating our longstanding policies.”

Really, since when has any American government falsely accused Israel of apartheid?

And then Kirby added this gem about the E.U. boykott:

“We do not view labeling the origin of products as being from the settlements a boycott of Israel. We also do not believe that labeling the origin of products is equivalent to a boycott.”

Sure thing. Putting labels on products indicating their Jewish origin is not a boykott. Just like forcing Jews to wear yellow stars indicating their Jewishness was not discrimination and much worse in the 1930s and 40s.

One wonders what the Obama Administration has in store for Israel during the next year.

Obama’s term in office ends at 11:59 am on January 20, 2017–exactly one year from today.
