Was this "rock" attack terrorism? Only if the baby in the back seat was physically wounded--according the IDF.

Was this “rock” attack terrorism? Only if the baby in the back seat was physically wounded–according to the IDF.

“Rocks” and Molotovs were used in attacks against Israelis at more than 25 locations yesterday including: Beit Ummar, Hawara, Silwan, Rachel’s Tomb, Issawiya, the tunnel road leading out Jerusalem, Sussiya, Hevron, Road 443, and Yatta.

In these attacks and others, Israeli men, women, and children were traumatized–and cars and buses were damaged. Miraculously, no one was physically wounded.

Is this Molotov-thrower a terrorist? Only if he is lucky enough to wound an Israeli--or burn someone alive.

Is this Molotov-thrower a terrorist? Only if he is lucky enough to wound an Israeli–or burn someone alive.

But you would know none of this if you read the mainstream news–either internationally or domestically here in Israel.

Just this morning, on the front page of the Jerusalem Post, this headline appeared:

“Terrorist attacks show steep decline in July”

According to the article:

“…there were 6 attacks in July, according to the IDF, a drastic fall from 70 seen last October.”

The article goes on to quote an unnamed IDF source who says that:

“…the July number shows that recent tactics used by the security system are working.”

Your humble servant doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

The problem is that the government in general, and the IDF in particular, have never paid attention to the daily terrorism that afflicts residents of Judea, Samaria, and eastern Jerusalem.

Where did the “6” number mentioned by the IDF come from, especially considering that there were more than 120 attacks during a five-day period last week?

The “six” refers to instances in which Israelis were actually stabbed or shot. It does not include attempted stabbings or attempted shootings, or attempted anything. It is a number that completely obfuscates the reality on the ground.

In fact, it is very similar to the technique long used by the IDF along the Gaza border in regard to missile strikes from Gaza. Never mind that 75% of the children in Sderot and elsewhere suffer from PTSD from repeated missile attacks, just as long as they are not physically hit by a missile, they don’t count.
