Quote of the Day

“What we see is that everything is going on in a frenzy and chaos. Fortunately, from time to time Netanyahu manages to overcome his disgust for Bennett and adopts Naftali’s Corona proposals. We see time and time again that things Bennett said many months ago are ultimately adopted by the government . . . We will not join a government that is so irrelevant, inflated and preoccupied with itself.”

Knesset legislator Matan Kahana of the Yamina Party speaking on Arutz Sheva about how PM refuses to make Yamina part of the Coalition because of his personal animus against Yamina head Naftali Bennett–and yet ends up adopting all of Bennett’s proposals to deal with Corona such as the decision yesterday to put the IDF in charge of all Corona logisitics.

**The Israel Superintendent of Police announced yesterday that 130 police have recently tested positive for Corona. In making the announcement, he suggested that many of the infections have been caused by interactions with those protesting in the streets of Israel.

**Finally, there seems to be a plan to at least partially reopen the skies into Israel. The plan which is set to be ratified later this week is to divide the countries in the world into “green” (low Corona morbidity) and “red” (high Corona morbidity).

If you are from a green country, you will be required to self-quarantine for 5 days upon landing. If you are from a red country, you will be required to present “clean bill of Corona health” before boarding the plane to Israel.

Obviously, many questions remain unanswered, but at least the ball is rolling.

The IDF continues to move men, material, and even Iron Dome interceptors into the north in anticipation of a Hezbollah retaliatory attack following the killing of one of its commanders in a strike in Syria several days ago.

Threats are being bandied back and forth with the IDF warning that if any sort of attack is directed against Israeli soldiers or civilians, Lebanon will pay a heavy price.

More Iranian munitions going up in a huge blast in municipal Baghdad.

Iranian forces have been hit againthis time in Iraq. Numerous explosions blew apart an ammunition depot and weapons warehouse in the Al-Saqr neighborhood of Baghdad, a neighborhood which is the home of Iranian proxy militias. Iraqis were quick to blame the blasts on “high temperatures” in the area.

Meanwhile, in Iran itself, it appears that the explosions that created “an earthquake” on the island of Qesem two nights ago were the sounds of a Revolutionary Guards underground missile base being struck by unknown aircraft.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Sovereignty Appears Dead But The Trump Peace Plan Proceeds

We are approaching the end of July--a month that was supposed to have seen the application of Israeli sovereignty over the Jewish communities in Area C of Judea and Samaria.

PM Netanyahu, who promised that this would be the month, has not publicly uttered the word “sovereignty” in July. In the meantime, we continue to hear from the Americans that there will never be any American approval for extension of sovereignty unless Israel makes major land concessions to the PLO–specifically in allowing the Palestinians to build new homes and infrastructure in Area C.

Which is precisely what the Netanyahu Coalition government is now doing.

With no concession whatsoever from the Palestinians and no declaration of sovereignty, Israel is doing nothing to stop massive Palestinian building projects, many of which are funded by the European Union.

Yesterday an infuriated Yochai Damari, the head of the Mt. Hevron Council lambasted the government because of the utter indifference of Israeli authorities to what is going on–and at the same time hit the nail on the head as to why:

“Terrible things are happening right here in Israel’s backyard and the government does nothing. The Palestinians do what they want, both in paving roads and in building houses and building electricity and water infrastructure. I can only say that the closing of the eyes is probably convenient for someone . . . All of this territory [where the building is taking place] is supposed to be part of a Palestinian state according to the Trump plan. Obviously, our government has already decided to transfer it to the Palestinians at this stage, and it is unclear what if anything we are getting in return.”

What the Palestinians are getting are impossible-to-reverse facts on the ground; what we are getting is nothing.
