Population statistics as we approach our 74th Independence Day:
9,506,000 people now live in Israel–an increase of 176,000 from last year.
The Jewish population constitutes 73.9% of the population (around 7,000,000).
The Arab population is 21.1% of the population (around 2,000,000).
478,000 non-Arab Christians constitute 5% of the population.
A student from Malawi, who had worked with an Israeli health volunteer in his country battling AIDS, came up to us as we walked down the street in the UC-Davis Picnic Day Parade and wanted to carry the Israeli flag.
