The Gaza War: Day 16 . . . The War in the North

Yom Rishon

Sunday

7 Cheshvan 5784

October 22 2023

UPDATE 9:30 PM

In the South:

Missile attacks since 4:30 pm:

Netivot (7:38) Israelis wounded, Erez (7:14), Beersheva (7:00), Be’eri (6:10).

*According to the Ministry of Welfare, the HamISIS attack on October 7 left 21 children from 13 families orphaned.

*An Israeli soldier was killed this afternoon apparently on a raid inside Gaza to try to find hostages.

*According to the IDF, 4478+ HamISIS terrorists have been killed.

In the North:

*Numerous fears of infiltration in recent hours in the northern border communities of Tula, Matula, Arab Al Aramsha.

*Terrorists fired an anti-tank missile at Menara (6:25).

*Hezbollah says that 24 of its members (aka terrorists) have been killed in encounters with the IDF since the war began.

UPDATE 4:30 PM

In the last 4 hours:

*HamISIS terrorists fired an anti-tank missile at IDF troops at Kissufim.

*A terrorist opened fire on IDF troops at Al Aruv in Judea and was shot and killed.

*In an idea that would change the face of Israel infinitely for the better, Economy Minister is proposing to bring in 160,000 workers from India. According to estimates, the construction industry alone lacks about 80,000 workers, the agriculture industry about 15,000 workers, factories about 22,000, and the restaurant industry about 24,000.

*There are no more empty hotel rooms in Israel for those being evacuated from southern and northern communities on the borders. From now on they will need to be housed in makeshift community centers and schools.

*It has been reported that PM Netanyahu has had another extended meeting with Gen. (res) Yitzhak Brick (alternately spelled “Barik” and “Brik”) who is advocating an intensive 2 month bombing campaign before a ground invasion of Gaza. Brick is reportedly also proposing that Israel swap 600 Palestinian prisoners for the 212 hostages–and then to hunt down those prisoners afterwards.

UPDATE 1:00 PM

Sheer Idiocy: We Knew This Would Happen

It has taken only two weeks since the October 7 massacres for the Israel Ministry of Agriculture to propose bringing in Palestinian workers to work on farms. If any of you dear readers can think of a more idiotic idea, please let your humble servant know.

In the South:

The number of hostages has been raised to 212.

Missile and mortar attacks in the last 3 hours at :

Ofakim, Kissufim, Ashkelon, Kerem Shalom, and Nahal Oz,

The reason that last night was quiet in Ashdod is that the attacks on HamISIS came from the west. In that attack, the deputy commander of the HamISIS missile array was killed (the commander was killed a few days ago).

In the North:

The IAF has just shot down a drone approaching the Israeli border.

A third anti-tank terror squad this morning was killed by an anti-aircraft missile–this time at Zerait.

IDF tank fire is now engaging another terror squad on Mt. Dov.

In Judea and Samaria:

One of the terrorists killed last night in Jenin was the terrorist who killed the two Ashdod residents at the car wash in Hawara two months ago.

UPDATE 10:00 AM

In the south:

It seems strangely quiet down here in Ashdod. We didn’t have the usual roar or planes in the sky all night, or the non-stop bombing of northern Gaza of the last two days.

Is this the lull before the storm, or a new phase of the war?

The HamISIS (a word I’ve just coined) and Islamic Jihad keep firing missiles. A barrage hit the Holon, Bat Yam, Rishon Lezion area at 9:00 am.

In the north:

At 8:20 am this morning, the IDF killed a squad of terrorists about to launch anti-tank missiles on Avivim on the Lebanese border.

On the Syrian front:

Amidst reports that the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards arrived in Syria yesterday, the IAF bombed the Damascus and Aleppo airports out of commission.

In Judea and Samaria:

The IDF carried out an attack on an Islamic Jihad HamISIS cell in the basement of the Al Anatzri Mosque in Jenin that was on the verge of carrying out a massacre like the one on the Gaza border on October 7. Five terrorists were killed in the airstrike.

There is an ongoing firefight between IDF forces and terrorists in the Askar neighborhood of Shechem (Nablus). 4 terrorists were killed in the Nesser neighborhood of Shechem last night.

A terrorist who was placing an IED near the Awarta Checkpoint inadvertently blew himself up.
