The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona update . . .

There are now 66 confirmed cases in Israel, including a 9-year-old boy.

As the number of Corona cases mount, the number of draconian measures being placed on Israelis increases. There is now talk that there will be a ban on all public events including weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and brits.

At the same time, two more airlines confirmed that they are postponing all flights to Israel: Brussels Air and Virgin Atlantic. Rumors are that United Airlines will be doing the same shortly.

Palestinian violence in the last 48 hours . . .

There has been an explosion of violence in Judea and Samaria.

Terror attacks employing Molotovs and “rocks” have taken place at the Yakir Junction, between Tapuach and Migdalot, on Road 465 near Deir Abu Mash’al, Al-Aruv in Hevron at the Yehuda Junction, just outside of Ofra, Haramla, Gilead Farm, on Road 446 near Na’alin, the Hasnu Junction, Beit Seis, Tekoa, Neve Tzuf, Talmon,  Kfar Beit, Hawara, the Halhul Junction, Migdal Oz, Beit El, the Trans-Yehuda Road, and Tekoa among other places.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Is The Gantz “Minority” Ploy Falling Apart?

There is considerable evidence at this hour that Benny Gantz’s brazen ploy to take control of the government is in danger of falling apart before it ever got off the ground.

At least 3 members of Gantz’s own party have now been joined by Orly Levy-Abekasis of the Bridge Party (Bridge is part of the Meretz/Labor/Bridge Party) in announcing that they will not support the move.

Levy-Abekasis was remarkably clear in her statement:

“I will not support the government that relies on Balad and the joint list, and I do not see myself as committed to partnering with the Meretz Party, which was forced on me and Amir Peretz under the pressure of many factors in Blue and White. I said this before the election and I will say it afterwards. I also made it clear to my partner, MK Labor Party chairman Amir Peretz, immediately after the elections. Israeli citizens are entitled to expect their representatives to act responsibly and reliably in fulfilling their promises for them.”

Wow and double wow.

And so goes Gantz’s minority anti-Bibi takeover of the Knesset down the drain. All it takes are 2 Knesset members to not support Gantz for his ploy to fail.

Apparently. Because one never knows what will happen tomorrow in Israeli politics.

The question now is whether Orly will join Likud along with a couple of other people and thereby establish a right-wing government.

We can only hope.
