Quote of the Day

“What you do not understand is that the only thing that still gives the PLO support on the street is its ability to pay salaries. To its officials, to its organizations, to privileged groups, and to prisoners.”

An unnamed “senior” Palestinian prisoner in conversation with Attorney Maurice Hirsch

This statement was given in the context that the order that former Defense Minister Naftali Bennett gave to banks to stop PLO payments to terrorists on pain of severe sanctions is about to come into full force (despite being frozen multiple times by now “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz).

Of course, the Israeli government working in cahoots with the PLO and Hamas has figured out a way around its own order: simply have the PLO and Hamas dole out money by hand.

Or better still, dole it out by hand at a post office instead of a bank. After all, where do all of the Hamasniks in Gaza pick up their blackmail money from Qatar? At the post office.

The News On the Israeli Street

The daily Corona (Covid-19) update . . .

Please note that these numbers encompass from 4 pm Friday to 8 pm Sunday:

818,548 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.

There are 2,350 newly confirmed cases.

640 are in critical condition—an increase of 19

221 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an increase of 7

Considering the fact that the numbers above cover 52 hours, they are startlingly good. Newly confirmed cases have steeply declined, and more importantly, the number of daily dead is the lowest it has been in months.

Interestingly, the post-Purim bump in morbidity never happened–and no one seems to have a reason why except for the fact that vaccinations may have been the determining factor. To top off the good news, the coefficient of infection dropped to 0.78 today.

Some good news on the diplomatic front . . .

Kosovo announced today that it is opening an embassy in Jerusalem.

Niger appears on the edge of establishing diplomatic relations with Israel.

Netanyahu Raids The “Right” Yet Again

“We will make sure to establish a stable right-wing government that will take care of the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria and will legalize small, fledgling communities.”

PM Netanyahu speaking in Samaria this morning

If anyone out in Judea and Samaria is stupid enough to believe Netanyahu, your humble servant will sell them a tropical timeshare apartment in Antarctica.

Netanyahu’s pre-election modus operandi has been the same for more than a decade. In the last two weeks before an election, instead of attacking parties on the “left”, he goes after the parties on the “right” which are supposedly his ideological friends in an attempt to siphon off some of their votes to Likud.

To accomplish this, he makes a quick stop at one or two communities in Judea or Samaria, has a photo op in which he talks about establishing a right-wing government, and promises to promote construction in those communities while legalizing smaller ones out on isolated hilltops.

In doing so, he virtually ensures that there will not be a right-wing government because he takes seats away from the small right wing parties on the “right”.

Then, when he becomes Prime Minister through some coalition with a party like Kahol Levan, Netanyahu immediately throws the communities in Judea and Samaria under the bus.

Construction? Frozen.

Legalization? No way.

The bottom line is that Benjamin Netanyahu is no more “right-wing” than Benny Gantz, Yair Lapid, or numerous other politicians left of center in Israel.

All he wants is the status quo–which in his terms means “I will stay in power.”
