The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona (Covid-19) update . . .

Please note that these numbers encompass from 8 pm Thursday to 5 pm Friday:

831,383 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.

There are 868 newly confirmed cases.

479 are in critical condition—a decrease of 3

199 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an increase of 10

6,165 have died–an increase of 8

There are currently 10,713 active Corona cases.

For the first time in weeks, the coefficient of infection increased today. It is now standing at 0.59 with a 1.9% positive Corona test rate.

Let the post-election games begin! . . .

The air is rife with real deals, supposed deals, and faux deals being or supposedly being bandied about in an attempt to form a coalition.

For example, there is a report today that in return for the support of the New Hope Party of Gideon Sa’ar, PM Netanyahu promises to resign in 1 year. Obviously, given how Netanyahu threw Benny Gantz under the bus and did not fulfill a promise to have a rotating prime ministership, no one takes Netanyahu seriously.

Another report has Yair Lapid desperately trying to cobble together a coalition that would include RAAM, New Hope, and Yamina so that he could reach 61 seats. However, New Hope and Yamina would almost certainly never sit in a same government with RAAM.

And another report has Benny Gantz campaigning behind the scenes to become Prime Minister.

And, and, and . . . there apparently is no end to the machinations going on.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Joe Biden Begins Throwing Money At The “Vulnerable” Palestinians

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours has been as widespread as always.

Palestinian terrorists using Molotovs and “rocks” struck Israelis on Road 446 near Shukba, on Road 465 west of Neve Tzuf, at the East Halhul Junction, Tekoa, and at dozens of other places.

Palestinian terrorists using Molotovs and “rocks” attacked Israeli buses at Beit Anun (bus line 382), and at various places in Gush Etzion.

Palestinian terrorists attacked IDF troops at Beit Dajan near Shechem.

Your humble servant mentions this terror to once again point out that the Palestinians are not a benign, poor, vulnerable people. What is true is that they are an infantile people who prefer to live on the handouts of foreign governments, NGOs, non-profits, and anybody who will give them money.

Much to the glee of the PLO and Hamas, the Biden Administration has rushed to reverse the course set by former President Trump. The money tap is flowing again as illustrated by this speech yesterday by U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Greenfield:

For our part, President Biden is restoring US assistance programs that support economic development and humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people. Specifically, the United States is pleased to announce today $ 15 million in humanitarian assistance to support the most vulnerable communities in the West Bank and Gaza. With this assistance, the US Agency for International Development is supporting Catholic Relief Services’ COVID-19 response efforts in health care facilities and for vulnerable families in the West Bank and Gaza. In addition, this assistance will support emergency food assistance programming to communities facing food insecurity, which has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This urgent, necessary aid is one piece of our renewed commitment to the Palestinian people. The aid will help Palestinians in dire need, which will bring more stability and security to both Israelis and Palestinians alike. That’s consistent with our interests and our values, and it aligns with our efforts to stamp out the pandemic and food insecurity worldwide.

The United States looks forward to continuing its work with Israel, the Palestinians, and the international community to achieve a long-sought peace in the Middle East.

What hokum.

Does anyone really think that this $15 million dollars is going to go anywhere except straight into the pockets of Mahmoud Abbas, Yahya Sinwar, and their cronies?

Whom do you think is employed by Catholic Relief Services in Ramallah and Gaza City?

In short, here we go again.

There is no end to the stupidity of western governments when it comes to affecting change. Throwing money at the Palestinians will not bring “a long-sought peace in the Middle East.”

With each delivery of money, that day of peace is further postponed.

Shabbat Shalom!
