Photos of the Evening As Heavy Snow Hits Israel

Snow is seemingly falling everywhere from an estimated 20 cm already in Majdal Shams near the Lebanese border to a projected 8 cm in Jerusalem. Already, the all-time record for power consumption has been broken as the Israel Electric Company struggles to keep up with the demand for heat.

Not all fun and games: a photo taken from a car being driven in central Israel:

What an unusual sight in Israel? Snowplows clearing the road in north-central Israel.

The News on the Israeli Street

Corona wars . . .

In yet another chaotic move by a clueless government, PM Bennett announced yesterday that all quarantine restrictions on elementary, junior, and senior high school students will be discontinued tomorrow.

In response, the Israel Teacher’s Union has called for a nationwide strike of all teachers in kindergartens and schools. The leader of the Union posted this statement to teachers:

“In light of the government’s decision exposing you to the coronavirus in a way that endangers your health, and in the face of thousands of requests from you, protest measures will be taken tomorrow – don’t go to schools and kindergartens.”

The daily Corona update . . .

On a “bad-weather” day during which fewer people than usual were tested:

A total of 8,507 Israelis have died–an increase of 19 since yesterday.

An ancient amulet containing the Hebrew letter aleph with a lotus flower has been unearthed at Mt. Ebal in Samaria at the location of the biblical altar of Joshua ben Nun.

The amulet that was found.

No precise date has been ascribed to the amulet yet, but just the possibility that it comes from the time of Joshua is amazing.

As you may not know, Joshua–who led the Israelite conquest of Canaan after Moses died–was actually born Hoshea the son of Nun of the tribe of Ephraim, but Moses called him Yehoshua which translates into Joshua in English.  According to the book of Joshua 24:29, Joshua died at the age of 110.

The Outrageous New Government Plan For Khan al-Ahmar

Part of the illegal Palestinian Bedouin encampment of Khan al-Ahmar. Note the European flags.

Over the last half decade, your humble servant has written repeatedly about the utter fiasco at Khan al-Ahmar.

Just to refresh your memory, Khan al-Ahmar is an illegal Bedouin encampment (some say “settlement”) that was established near Maaleh Adumim. Approximately 200 Bedouins live there–90 of whom are children.

The Bedouins were told to place their encampment there by the PLO because that area of the E1 Zone is a strategic spot between Jerusalem and Ramallah that connects the northern and southern parts of what the Palestinians call “the West Bank”.

In May of 2018, the leftist Israel High Court of Justice shockingly ruled that the residents of Khan al-Ahmar should be evicted because Khan al-Ahmar was established illegally.

This ruling came while PM Netanyahu was in office, and he continually promised that he would obey the Court’s order.

But he never did.

Instead, the Netanyahu government succumbed to pressure exerted by the European Union which had rushed in to “fortify” the encampment with infrastructure and even a small school. More recently, the Biden Administration has also weighed in against demolishing Khan al-Ahmar.

Fast forward to yesterday, when the current government leaked out the news that the government and the Bedouins have apparently agreed to pick up all the parts of the encampment, move them 300 meters down the road, and rebuild Khan al-Ahmar there on state land.

Yes, on state land.

To put it in different words, Israel is going to kowtow to European and American pressure and permit Palestinian Khan al-Ahmar to be built on Israeli land in an extremely sensitive and strategic location that will de facto connect Palestinian areas to the north and south while blocking Israeli contiguity.

The decision is outrageous and further evidence of how the current government is giving away our country piece by piece.
