Happy New Year From Israel!

 Two Belated Christmas Quotes

Yes, Christmas may have come and gone, but one week later two items related to Christmas have come to light.

First we have this quote from Tawfik Tirawi, PLO Central Committee member:

“This is blessed Christmas, The birthday of our lord Jesus the Messiah, the first Palestinian and the first Islamic Martyr (shaheed).”

The PLO has long claimed that Jesus was the first Palestinian, but now we come to find out that he was the first Islamic Martyrmore than 600 years before Islam ever came into existence.

If that is not enough to shake your head, how about this little ditty from Chris Gunness which he posted on Facebook:

Twas the night before Christmas when all across the Strip,

Not a Qasam Rocket crackled, under Israel’s tight grip.

Collaborators twitched as they hung in the air

On the lamp posts that glistened in Palestine Square.

Chris Gunness, as you may not remember, is the chief spokesperson of the United Nation Relief Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, aka UNRWA.

Palestinian collaborators with Israel twitching as they hung on the glistening lamp posts in Palestine Square in Gaza: what a lovely sight to Gunness, and what volumes these lines speak about the leadership of UNRWA–one of the most vile organizations on the planet.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in Judea and Samaria in the last 24 hours . . .

This year comes to an end the same way it started with numerous “rock” and Molotov attacks on Israeli men, women, and children. Here are a few of the places where Palestinian terrorists tried to kill Israelis yesterday: on the Gush Eztion-Hevron Road, at the Halhul Junction, near the Beit El Junction, Adam, Beit Ummar, the Tura Vineyards, Hizma, Al Fajjar, Migdalot, Road 465 near the Benjamin bypass, Curve 160 in Hevron, Azzun, Al Aruv, Deir Kadis, Luban a-Sharqiya, just outside of Tekoa, and along Road 443.

Meanwhile on the Gaza border . . .

**Finally, an Israeli television network, Channel 13, has seen the light following a decade of missile firings at southern Israelis.

No longer will the network reports say that there are “no casualties” when a missile fails to kill someone. From now on, they will report that there are no “physical casualties,” and in every case, the reporters will note that there are “emotional casualties.”

**Hamas has been working assiduously in recent weeks to open up diplomatic channels to Europe and the U.S.

In the latter regard, it is not surprising that the Palestinian terror organization is using former Obama adviser Robert Malley as a conduit. You may have forgotten that Malley served on Obama’s National Security Council from 2014-2017. He was considered Obama’s point man on the Middle East and special adviser on ISIS.

Of course, Malley made it known then, and continues to make it known now that Israel is wholly to blame for a lack of peace with the Palestinians.

**In what can only be described as another moronic decision by the IDF’s COGAT unit, farmers in Gaza will now be able to sell their strawberries in Israel (with Israeli help).

This decision is likely to bankrupt Israeli strawberry farmers who can no longer sell their products to European markets and must rely solely on the Israeli market.

A major demographic turning point . . .

Statistics released today by the Central Bureau of Statistics show that a Jewish woman living in Israel as well as Area C of Judea and Samaria will give birth to 3.05 children during her life.

On the other hand, an Israeli-Arab woman will give birth to 3.04 children during her life.

Stop and think for a moment about what a sea change this is.

For the first time in history, Israeli-Jewish women are having more children than Israeli-Arab women.

Amazing!

The ball on annexation begins rolling . . . apparently . . .

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the first meeting on the annexation of the Jordan Valley will be held on Sunday.

As we have written before, no one expects this process to go smoothly because PM Netanyahu is so determined to kowtow to Jordan and to world opinion.

It will be interesting to see if annexation can happen by the time of the election.

TODAY’S BLOG:

December 31: A Momentous Day In Israeli History

7:00 am, December 31, 2019.

This may be a time and date that goes down in the annals of Israel as a momentous day in the history of the country.

At precisely 7:00 am this morning, two wells from the Leviathan gas field off the Israeli coast began pumping natural gas into Israel.

The Leviathan site off the coast of Israel.

The Leviathan site off the coast of Israel.

The importance of this cannot be overstated. In the energy sector alone, it means cheaper fuel for Israelis, more money for the government in terms of exports, and a cleaner environment for all as coal powered electrical plants are phased out.

Other businesses dependent on energy will hopefully flourish, and hopefully social programs will also flourish with more money available to fund them.

More than this, your humble servant hopes there will be a major attitudinal shift as Israelis recover a little of the swagger they have lost in the last half century.

The simple fact is that the Israeli collective psyche has been so beaten down by Israel delegitimizers over the years that it will be nice to have an adrenaline boost of confidence as the country becomes more self-sufficient and can tell the world to go fly a kite.

But none of this is coming easy.

If you can believe it, panic-stricken people on the Israeli environmental left continue protesting Leviathan–to the point of holding another rally in Tel Aviv tonight.

But even more, frantic parents who live in the area closest to Leviathan (it is 81 miles off shore!) have decided to evacuate their homes and cancel schools for the foreseeable future for fear that the gas wells will emit carcinogenic substances.

To try to allay their absurd fears, the Ministry of the Environment reported this afternoon that there has been absolutely no pollution from the Leviathan wells.

But of course that doesn’t matter to those who are convinced they are about to die should the wells continue to pump natural gas. Some day, we will look back on today as a turning point in Israel’s economic and social history.
