The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

The Palestinian terrorist who murdered 1st Sgt. Amit Ben Yigal in Ya’abad back on May 12 has been captured. Amit was killed when a concrete block thrown off a roof crushed his skull as he was on patrol below.

The terrorist is a 49 year old man who lives in the building from which the block was thrown. Apparently he was arrested three days after the murder and confessed, only to be released because security authorities did not believe his confession.

The good news for the terrorist is that because of Benny Gantz’s nauseating decision to authorize the PLO to continue paying terrorists, he will immediately start drawing a salary as he sits in an Israeli prison.

This morning, the Israeli government transferred nearly $30,000,000 to the PLO.

The Egyptians are on the move . . .

Not only is the Egyptian army trying to wipe out Palestinian terrorists along the Gaza border, it is reported this morning that a convoy of tanks and armored vehicles has entered Libya.

Corona Returns To Israel (as if it ever left)

*10 am Monday: There are now 17,915 confirmed cases of Corona in Israel of whom 15,102 have recovered.  23 Israelis are on ventilators. 298 Israelis have died.

Unfortunately, the gap between confirmed cases and recoveries is widening once again with fewer people being judged “recovered.” The only good news seems to be that the number of “serious cases” including those on ventilators is not currently increasing.

Since May 25th, more than 1200 new cases of Corona have been confirmed including 94 yesterday.

Where do the 94 come from? Such places as Tel Aviv 46, Jerusalem 37, Netanya 19, Bnei Brak 17, Arara 15, Rahat 10, Petah Tikva 8, Rishon LeZion 8, Bat Yam 7, Beersheva 6, Ashkelon 6, Ashdod 6, and Beit Shemesh 5.

A total of 72 school and 52 kindergartens are now closed, and the 17,605 students and staff in them are under quarantine.

Trains which were scheduled to begin running again today have been indefinitely delayed because of the increased number of confirmed Corona cases.

El Al announced today that it has extended its cessation of passenger flights until at least June 30.

With every group in Israel successfully asking for national assistance, the Israeli government budget deficit has climbed to 6%.

Because of the dire financial situation facing Israelis (at least 40% of families now report that they are having trouble making their mortgage payments), PM Netanyahu and Finance Minister Katz announced yesterday that import taxes will now be canceled on cell phones, clothing and footwear, baby products, electronics, televisions, screens, speakers, home appliances, toys and games and cosmetics. Given that Israel has some of the highest import taxes in world, this is a major announcement–and one that is sure to add to the deficit.

As we have previously written here on OneIsrael, given the lax attitude in Tel Aviv and throughout Israeli in general where Israelis have been flocking to beaches and parks without any thought of social distancing, the increase in Corona is inevitable.
