***Palestinian terror in the last 8 hours . . .

At 10:32 am, a Palestinian terrorist armed with a knife was captured at the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron. No Israelis were wounded.

At 11:09 am, Palestinian terrorists smashed out the windows on an Israeli bus near Hizma with “rocks.” A pregnant passenger had to be evacuated because of trauma.

At 1:31 pm, Palestinian terrorists threw IEDs at Border Police and civilians in Issawiya. A woman was wounded.

26 other Palestinian terror attacks have taken place since 10 am this morning.

***The city of Jerusalem installs concrete stanchions around bus stops . . .

As reported several days ago, the municipality of Jerusalem has begun placing upright concrete bars around bus stops in an effort to stop Palestinian bulldozer attacks.

Will these concrete stanchions stop ramming attacks? Only if people waiting for the buses stay behind them.

***In case you missed it, Israel has (almost) a new Attorney General.

With Yehuda Weinstein’s tenure mercifully coming to an end at the end of January (who knows what further havoc he can wreak between now and then?), the committee to choose the next Attorney General has met and nominated his successor.

That person is Avichai Mandelblit.

Avishai-Mandelblit

Because Mandelblit is the choice of both PM Netanyahu and Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, his approval by the Cabinet is a foregone conclusion.

An Orthodox Jew, the 52-year-old Mandelblit was born in Tel Aviv, and is a Brigadier General in the IDF Reserves having served as the Chief Military Advocate of the IDF from 2004 to 2011. In that capacity he performed meritoriously in defending the IDF in the international arena.

Whether Mandelblit is the best possible choice for Attorney General remains to be seen; however, anyone will be better than Yehuda Weinstein.

***Speaking of Ayelet Shaked . . .

The New Israel Fund is putting up billboards all over Israel proclaiming that our Justice Minister is, in fact, the “Minister of Hate.”

The caption reads "Minister of Hate."

The caption reads “Minister of Hate.”

Groups like the New Israel Fund cannot tolerate the fact that Shaked has proposed laws against foreign-funded NGOs–and especially foreign-funded NGOs that support the Boycott, Divest, and Sanction Movement against Israel.

In other words, NGOs like the New Israel Fund.

By the way, can you imagine what would be the reaction if such a billboard campaign were launched against Tzipi Livni or anyone else on the “Left”? It would immediately be labeled “incitement”, and there would be calls for the police to investigate those responsible.

What good news!

It has been reported recently that more than 3000 Israeli scientists and researchers working outside of Israel are now actively seeking to return to Israel with their families.

To be more precise, 3027 such Israelis have registered with the Israel Academy of Science and Humanities special office which facilitates such returns.

As reported in the Jerusalem Post:

“Of the 3,027, a total of 2,198 have doctoral degrees, and 658 are studying for their Ph.Ds. 1,750 are in the US with 228 in England, 94 in Germany, 52  in Australia and 39 in France. The academy reported that new applicants have been registering daily in recent months. Ninety have come home in 2015. Tel Aviv University hired 73 in the past few years, followed by Ben-Gurion University with 63, the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology 53, the Weizmann Institute of Science and Bar-Ilan University with 44 each, University of Haifa with 35, Ariel University with 18 and the Open University with nine.”

Interestingly, it is economics (the inability to find a good job) that has been driving Israeli scientists overseas in recent years, but it is a feeling of a lack of security that is bringing them back.

Not that being in Israel is perfect. When surveyed, the 3027 cited economics, red tape, and a different academic style in Israel as preventing their return.

But the important thing is that they want to return and are doing so in ever increasing numbers.
