The Malevolent Quote of the Day

“. . . Israeli society is in the process of Nazification . . .”

Jeremy Fogel, staff member at the Mandel Institute

You will recall that two days ago we reported here on israelstreet how the IDF has decided to terminate its relationship with the Mandel Institute which was providing lecturers for its young officers’ course.

Now you see why.

And now you partly see why our IDF General Command is so far to the “left” side of the political spectrum. Young officers have been indoctrinated by people like Jeremy Fogel to despise the very country they are supposed to defend.

The Outrageous Quote of the Day:

“I am concerned about Israel’s decision to temporarily suspend imports and exports to Gaza and urge it to reverse this decision.”

UN Middle East envoy Nikolai Mladanov upon visiting the Kerem Shalom crossing yesterday.

Can you believe this? We have had more than one hundred days of Molotov kites and balloons which have resulted in trauma for all Israeli residents along the Gaza border and the burning of tens of thousands of acres of Israeli farms and forests.

Where has Mladonov been? Why hasn’t he visited the Israeli border before now?

The answer of course is simple.

Mladonov and the United Nations don’t give a whit about Israel or what happens to Israelis.

(See more about the Kerem Shalom crossing below.)

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

*Palestinian terrorists in Gaza launched Molotov kites and balloons into southern Israel yesterday that started 27 more fires.

*Palestinian terrorists in Gaza loaded disabled Palestinians on a boat called “Breaking the Siege” and attempted to break through Israeli patrol boats off coast. The boat was intercepted, taken to Ashdod, and offloaded of its passengers (who were treated by Israeli doctors). Yesterday evening, the disabled Palestinians transported by bus back to Gaza via the Erez Crossing.

More on the Kerem Shalom Crossing . . .

In response to the conflagration happening along the border, PM Netanyahu declared on Monday night (as we reported) that the Kerem Shalom Crossing would be closed yesterday.

As we predicted, that declaration turned out to be false. Yesterday morning 186 truckloads of fuel, diesel fuel, and diapers were trucked into Gaza as they are every day.

With today comes another worthless declaration. Now Israel says that it is banning the entry into Gaza of construction materials for UN projects, food, fuel, medical equipment, wheat, straw for livestock, vegetables and fruit, iron, wood, electrical appliances, marble, ceramic, clothing, shoes and other items.

And a tit for tat declaration from Hamas that announced this morning that no more fruit from Israel (namely bananas, mangoes, apples, oranges, and grapes) will be allowed into Gaza.

Israeli politics begins in earnest . . .

With PM Netanyahu’s suggestion two days ago that new Israeli elections may take place as early as next March (whether he really meant it or was just trying to get his haredi coalition partners to compromise on the new “draft” bill is anyone’s guess), every politician has immediately begun jockeying for position.

Yesterday we saw the hilarious episode of globetrotter Tzipi Livni telling Israeli news reporters that she wants to become head of the Labor Party. Why? Not for herself, Livni said, but because the people want her.

Sure thing Tzipi.

By the way, PM Netanyahu will be in Moscow tonight watching the Croatia-England semifinal in the World Cup with and at the invitation of his new best friend, Vladimir Putin.

Where are the traffic police? . . .

The Israeli traffic police revealed yesterday that during the month of June, they handed out 146,481 traffic tickets to drivers resulting in fines of 45 million shekels (around $12,300,000 dollars).

These tickets were handed out despite the fact that traffic cameras have been at least temporarily disabled because of a judicial decision.

The only question is: “Where are the police?” Your humble servant drives the coastal highway “racetrack” at least twice a week, and never sees a single police car.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The “Gaza First” Trump Peace Plan Takes Shape

Gaza. Gaza. Gaza. We keep coming back to Gaza throughout today’s blog, and indeed Gaza is the jumping off point for the new Trump Peace Place, the Trump-called “Deal of the Century.”

Some rather remarkable news filtered out yesterday concerning the Trump Plan and steps that are already being taken to implement it.

Broadly, the plan calls for a Palestinian state to be established in Gaza and Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria where there are no Israeli communities, and a few of the Arab neighborhoods in eastern Jerusalem.

There are no surprises in this description of a Palestinian state; in point of fact, there are already Palestinian states in Gaza (ruled by Hamas) and Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria (ruled by the PLO).  The thorny part of this proposed territory are the eastern neighborhoods of Jerusalem–particularly the Old City.

These are the surprises:

*an exchange of territory: Palestinians will be compensated for land annexed by Israel in Judea and Samaria with territory in the northern Egyptian Sinai that is contiguous with Gaza. How Egypt will be compensated for the land it is handing over to the Palestinians is unclear.

*the establishment of infrastructure: construction of a Palestinian power station in El Arish, a Palestinian seaport in the northern Sinai adjacent to Gaza, the creation of a Palestinian airport in El Arish. The estimated cost of these initial phases is $3 billion and will be paid for by one of the Gulf states (read Saudi Arabia).

*the creation of an industrial commercial zone in the northern Sinai: this is actually the centerpiece of the Trump Plan–a zone that is supposed to lift the economy of Gaza by providing capital and employment. In your humble servant’s opinion, this is somewhat delusional to say the least–the Palestinians have never been able to take care of themselves.

Interestingly, the groundwork is already well underway for the moves in the Sinai. The Egyptian Army has fenced in the airport area and razed homes and agricultural fields where the industrial zone in El Arish will be constructed.

So what does all of this mean?

For one thing, Mahmoud Abbas and the PLO are suddenly out in the cold. For another, Hamas has succeeded in putting Gaza on the front burner. For a third, Israel may soon face critical decisions about Jerusalem.

In sum, Kushner, Greenblatt, and Trump are thinking out of the box, and it will remain to be seen if the Palestinians miss another opportunity.
