The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

On the Gaza border:

Ten more fires were set by incendiary kites and balloons launched from Gaza. The largest fires burned acres of land near Yad Mordechai.

An IDF artillery unit killed two Hamas snipers on the Gaza border (see Today’s Blog).

In Judea and Samaria:

Palestinian terrorists throwing “rocks” and Molotovs assaulted Israeli men, women, and children at Karmei Tzur, Qabatiya, outside of Kiryat Arba, Tekoa, Hizma, and at numerous other locations.

At last . . .

It was reported yesterday that Gaza has begun the process of divorcing itself economically from Israel–and instead will begin buying goods and services from Egypt.

Israel’s sales to Gaza amount to almost three billion dollars a year, but this is money that we should do without. It leads to ridiculous situations such as the one we have reported on in the past in which Israeli banks actually launder dirty Hamas money from abroad (they convert dollars to shekels).

The sooner Israel cuts the Gaza economic umbilical cord the better.

Good and not so good economic news . . .

According to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics this week, the average wage increased by about 4.4% to 10,140 shekels a month ($2816).

On the other hand the average high-tech wage fell to 21,437 shekels a month ($5954).

Interestingly, there are 311,000 high-tech jobs in Israel–8.5% of the total work force.

Another glass ceiling is broken . . .

For the first time, a woman has been named an Israel Air Force Squadron Commander.

The woman, who is unnamed, was promoted to the rank of Lt. Col., is 34 years old, and obviously has extensive pilot experience.

Congratulations to this anonymous person!

TODAY’S BLOG:

The IDF’s Appalling Apology To Hamas

Try to wrap your mind around this, dear reader.

Yesterday, two Hamas Naval Commando snipers in a Hamas observation post  were killed by an IDF artillery shell as they were firing their weapons toward Israel.

To repeat, two of Hamas’ supposedly elite snipers were on the border in a Hamas observation post on the Gaza border facing Israel and were firing their weapons in the direction of Israel.

Hamas’ version of events is exactly the same except that it claims that the two snipers were engaged in a “live-fire exercise” on the Gaza border–and were merely demonstrating how they kill IDF soldiers.

So why am I describing this to you today?

Because, if you can believe this, the IDF apologized to Hamas today saying that the snipers were shot “in error.”

Think about that.

The IDF apologized to Hamas for killing two of their snipers who were firing their weapons on the Gaza border. To think that this apology comes after a Hamas sniper or snipers murdered an Israeli soldier several weeks ago and critically wounded another in separate shooting attacks is mind boggling.

The IDF apologized to Hamas.

Your humble servant wishes he could say that he is shocked by this apology, but wait . . . there is more.

Not only did the IDF apologize, the IDF spokesman also said that there was no way that the IDF could have known that it was a “live-fire exercise” because Hamas had not informed the IDF.

Hamas had not informed the IDF?

You will recall that we have stated numerous times on israelstreet that there is intense collusion between Hamas and the IDF–to the point that the IDF informs Hamas before it carries out air strikes on Hamas’ buildings and observation posts to make sure that no Hamas members are there.

Still, I just can’t get out of my mind that the IDF tucked its tail between its legs and apologized to Hamas for killing two of their snipers.

Isn’t it the IDF’s job to kill them all?
