Continuing Announcement

During the past month, israelstreet has embarked on a fundraising campaign. We hope to cover all of our website expenses for the year–a year in which we will gradually transition from israelstreet.org to oneisrael.org.

Our goal is to raise $5000. So far, we are 60% toward that goal.

We urge you to consider making either a one-time contribution or a monthly recurring one. Please click on the “Donate button” in the right hand column to help us continue getting the news out about Israel–news that you may not get anywhere else.  Thank you for your consideration, and thank you to those of you who have already donated!

The News On The Israeli Street

In Judea and Samaria:

In the last hour, a terrorist shooting attack took place in the Barkan Industrial Zone in Samaria. Two Israelis were killed; another is in critical condition. As of this hour, the terrorist–a Palestinian from nearby Qalqilya–is on the loose.

On the Gaza border:

Down here in southern Israel, the news is all about the fires.

Here in Ashdod about 25 km north of Gaza, we have another morning with smoke thick enough to cause respiratory distress and keep people inside. We can only imagine how it must be in the communities right on the border.

As noted in the caption of the photo above, a gigantic fire erupted last night at Moshav Ein Habesor. Here are some other photos from that fire:

And another:

Ein Habesor was not the only fire yesterday; there were nine others that torched the communities around the Gaza border.

There have been so many fires along the Gaza border in the last six months that it is easy to forget the scope. Here is a map of the places that have burned:

Aside from the fires yesterday, tens of more attacks were carried out by Palestinian terrorists against our soldiers. In one five minute period alone, more than 20 IEDs and grenades were thrown.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Insanely Pathetic Response Of Our Government

Above you saw the scope of the fires that have swept southern Israel since April.

And you saw and read about the Gazan Palestinian terrorism yesterday.

So what do you think was the government and IDF response yesterday?

In the first place, a smiling IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eizenkotwho has said that he doesn’t believe in attacking those starting fires and throwing “rocks” and Molotovsvisited the border and did absolutely nothing.

Our jolly IDF Chief of Staff.

Our jolly IDF Chief of Staff.

In the second place, the government apparently agreed to funnel Qatari money to Hamas.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Qatar will send money to the U.N. which will in turn send it to Israel, which will in turn send it to Hamas in Gaza. The money is supposed to be used to increase electricity in Gaza from 4 to 8 hours a day, and to pay the leaders of Hamas three months of back “pay”.

But where has all Qatari money gone before? It has been spent purchasing weapons that are tunneled in from Egypt, and building the tunnel infrastructure under Gaza including the highly sophisticated missile firing system.

That is what Israel is insanely facilitating.

But wait . . . there was more.

Our non-Defense Minister Lieberman really cracked down on the terrorists. He announced that he was reducing the fishing area of Gaza from 9 to 6 km, and . . . . hold your breath . . . he threatened to close the Kerem Shalom Crossing “if the violence continues.”

Remember it was Lieberman who opened the Kerem Shalom Crossing last month because “all is quiet” on the Gaza border.

The sad fact is that Lieberman becomes more of a joke as each day passes.

Your humble servant just doesn’t know how the government and IDF response could be any more pathetic. It is a sad day when the government and IDF sit idly by and do nothing as our communities burn and our soldiers are attacked.
