Just when you think you’ve heard everything fact of the day . . .

You may remember, dear reader, that back on November 13 in the midst of 525+ missiles being fired at southern Israel by terrorists in Gaza, a Palestinian who was in Israel illegally was killed when a missile hit the Ashkelon apartment in which he lived.

In which he lived with another illegal Palestinian woman.

48-year-old Mahmoud Abu Asabeh was apparently leading a double life with one family in the Hevron area and the other with the woman in Ashkelon.

Yesterday, the wife in Hevron demanded that Israel pay her compensation for her husband’s death under the Law of Victims of Hostile Acts.

Yes, you read all of that correctly.

The wife of a Palestinian philanderer who was living in Israel illegally wants the Israeli taxpayer to compensate her because he was killed by a missile fired by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza.

Unbelievable.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Along the Gaza border:

It has been a bitter day of fighting along the Gaza border with thousands of Hamasniks launching attacks at the border security fence. To get a taste for what is happening there click on this link which shows terrorists detonating a bomb there a few hours ago.

Israelis living along the Gaza border and even beyond fully expect missile attacks tonight for several reasons: first, the fiasco with the Qatari blackmail money has yet to play out; second, Hamas has sent all of its leaders underground and has evacuated its border observation posts; third, Iran is actively encouraging missile fire as a response to Israeli actions near Damascus two nights ago. In those actions in Syria, dozens of Iranian soldiers and mercenaries were killed–their bodies were secretly flown back to Tehran last night.

TODAY’S BLOG

The Incredible Success of Taglit-Birthright!

Another group of happy birthrighters in Israel.

Another group of happy birthrighters in Israel.

The past year has witnessed the liberal media staging attack after attack on the Taglit-Birthright program which brings thousands of young Jews to Israel. Even when a tiny group of 5 American Jews left the program in Israel last June because of ideological differences, that news was reported repeatedly in news media around the world as if it were a major event.

Subsequently, there has been much talk in the liberal media in recent months about how Taglit-Birthright’s success has peaked, and that in fact, the number of young Jews coming to Israel with the program is in decline.

According to an article in Israel Hayom today, nothing could be further from the truth.

48,000 young Jews came to Israel on Birthright in 2018–the most in history. That number, coupled with 8,000 Israelis who participated, means that the total number of Birthright participants for the year was 56,000.

Taglit-Birthright Israel CEO Gidi Mark commented on this number yesterday: “As we expected, we finished 2018 with the largest number of participants to date. Thousands of young Jews from all over the world continue to express interest and excitement about the project and testify that their tours are significant and fascinating. We will continue to sharpen our range of programs and focus on improving the participants’ experience.”

As Israel Hayom reports, some 650,000 young Jews have participated in Taglit-Birthright Israel in the last 18 years since the program began. As all readers of this blog know, Birthright provides free airfare to Israel and covers the cost of housing and a wide range of activities for those who come–with the focus on helping youth develop their connection with their Jewish identity, heritage, and Israel.

In past blogs, we have often commented on the incredible success of Birthright–particularly insofar as the repercussions it has down the road involving support for Israel and the discouragement of Jews marrying outside of their faith.

Israelstreet once again salutes Taglit-Birthright today and once again salutes the couple that makes it possible: Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson.
