The News on the Israeli Street

From Judea and Samaria:

Another "rock" attack near Kiryat Arba.

Another Palestinian “rock” attack near Kiryat Arba.

What you cannot see from the above photo is that the car closest to you was forced off the road–as was the other car in the background. The person sitting in the passenger side where the “rock” hit was wounded and had to be taken to a nearby clinic for treatment. The driver of the car was treated for trauma.

Other “rock” attacks with similar results occurred on the Gush Etzion road in the direction of Hevron, at Al Aruv, near Al-Mu’ayyir (another person wounded), next to Al-Fawwar in the Hevron Hills, and near Luban A-Sharqiya.

The Jewish community of Beit El was shut down for some hours last night following reports of a possible infiltration attempt. Gunfire was heard prompting a search by security forces; apparently, the terrorists fled without being captured.

From the Gaza border:

*There was yet another infiltration attack repulsed by the IDF in the area of Khan Younis.

*The IDF fired on Palestinian “fishing”/smuggling boats that violated the fishing area off the northern coast of Gaza.

*The IDF fired on an Islamic Jihad “observation post” (an empty one of course).

A day of fires:

Fires continued raging all over Israel yesterday started by Molotovs, balloons, exploding transmission lines, blown transformers, and arsonists.

Check out what happened at this electrical pole in Bnei Brak:

During a 9 hour stretch yesterday–from 11 am to 8 pm, 211 fires broke out around the country. Firemen received calls every 2.5 minutes. Some of the hardest hit areas were Lifta outside of Jerusalem (Hwy 1 and the new train line had to be shut down), on Road 443 near Modi’in, in Binyamina, and at Kibbutz Galed in northern Israel.

Netanyahu breaks the record tomorrow:

Tomorrow, Benjamin Netanyahu will break David Ben Gurion’s record as the longest serving Israeli prime minister.

He will have served 4,878 days in office–some 13.36 years.

Remember that these days were not continuous nor were Ben Gurion’s. Netanyahu served from June 11, 1996 until July 6, 1999 before starting his current run on March 31, 2009.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Freedom Of Expression For Arabs But Not For Jews

Let’s try to put this in perspective.

For years, there have been attempts to remove outright Israeli-Arab haters Azmi Bishara and Hanin Zuabi from the Knesset. Between the two of them and other members of their political parties of Hadash and Balad, they have ridden on the terrorist flotillas that periodically attempt to break through to Hamas Gaza, called for the murder of IDF soldiers and Jewish community members, and declared their intent to remove Jews from Israel.

All along, Bishara and Zuabi have described Israelis as “murderers”, “enemies”, and “racists.”

Each attempt to remove Bishara and Zuabi from the Knesset failed because of the Israel Supreme Court. In each and every case, the judges decided that the two were protected by “freedom of expression.” No matter what they did or said, no matter how egregious, the Court invariably ruled that no action could be taken against them with regard to the Knesset.

Meanwhile, back on March 17, our “esteemed” judges ruled that Dr. Michael Ben-Ari, the chairman of the Jewish Power Party, could not run in the April 9th election. Yesterday, the Court released its written decision as to why Ben-Ari was disqualified.

Its basic reason for doing so is that the Justices said that Ben-Ari constantly uses negative words to describe Arabs–words such as “murderers”, “enemies”, and “racists”in other words, exactly the same kinds of words that the Court ruled were protected under free speech when used by Bishara and Zuabi against Israelis.

More than this, they called attention to a flyer that Ben-Ari’s party produced trying to stop Jewish apartment owners in Afula from selling their apartments to Arabs. According to that flyer, “disloyal citizens” should not be sold apartments and should be kicked out of the country.

Not all Arabs, mind you, just disloyal ones.

Whether you disagree with Ben-Ari or agree with him, your humble servant is simply amazed how the Supreme Court of this country is quick to protect those who actively work to destroy this country under the cloak of “freedom of expression” and quick to deny the same protection to Jews.
