Photos of the Day:

Before:

A stretch of seashore in Eilat between Taba and the underwater observatory a month ago. This stretch abuts some of the most sensitive coral formations in the Israeli part of the Red Sea.

If you look closely, you will see the mountain, cars parked beside the road at its base, the road which leads to Egypt to the left and the city of Eilat to the right, and finally the homeless encampment which took root on the seashore over the last few decades.

That homeless encampment began as a few tents which housed people who came down to Eilat for a few days or weeks, but gradually became permanent–with garbage and feces, etc. being dumped in the sea.

Thus the city of Eilat decided that something had to be done to save the coral reef. Over the last month, the encampment was removed and tons of garbage disposed of. This is how the same stretch of coastline now looks:

A substantial improvement.

A substantial improvement.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours in Judea and Samaria . . .

Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis with “rocks” and Molotovs at Silwad, Hevron, Bethany, Beit Hagai, Beit Omer (soldier wounded), Beit Horon, Azzun (man wounded), near Kiryat Arba (attack on a bus), and at other locations.

Palestinian terrorists threw an IED at Jewish worshipers at Rachel’s Tomb near Bethlehem. No one was physically wounded; the terrorists escaped. Palestinian terrorists also attacked Jewish worshipers at Joseph’s Tomb in Shechem.

Palestinian terrorists detonated a bomb near a military outpost in Gush Etzion. No one was physically wounded.

A Palestinian terrorist was shot and wounded at the Reihan Checkpoint near Jenin this morning.

The above accounts are taken from the IDF, rotter, Rescue Judea and Samaria, Rescue without Borders, and hakolhayehudi.

The Iranian threat looms ever greater . . .

This is the message that the head of Mossad just delivered to the Netanyahu Security Cabinet. According to Israeli intelligence, the missiles fired at the Saudi oil fields were technologically advanced cruise missiles–for which Israel has no answer.

The Mossad director noted that Israeli strategic assets are just as vulnerable as the Saudi oil fields to which the IDF General Command replied that it looks at the missiles as a threat, but not an “immediate threat.”

Not an immediate threat? One would think that any such weapon in the hands of Iran or its proxies constitutes an immediate threat--particularly in light of the fact that the Iranians must feel emboldened by the lack of response from Saudi Arabia or the United States over the attack.

The Netanayhu pre-indictment hearings continue . . .

Yesterday saw several surprises. To begin with, Case 2000 was discussed instead of Case 1000. No explanation was given for the change–but Case 1000 will be the focus today. Second, and more important, the lead prosecutor in the Netanyahu cases, Liat Ben-Ari, did not show up.

According to the Justice Ministry, Ms. Ben-Ari had “prior commitments” though one can only wonder if there was something more significant about her absence. One line of speculation is that she knows that Case 2000 is going nowhere and therefore felt no need to be there; conversely, another train of thought is that Case 2000 is a “done” indictment so she felt no need to be there.

TODAY’S BLOG:

[Israel]

The three-year textbook reform undertaken by the PLO has been completed, and analyzed by Marcus Scheff of the IMPACT-SE Institute.

The Palestinian Ministry of Education has completely revised every textbook to be used in grades 1-12. This includes all textbooks in all schools in Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria, and Gaza. It also includes textbooks in all schools run by the Palestinians in eastern Jerusalem (why Israel permits this your humble servant does not know), and all UNRWA schools in so-called “refugee camps.”

Some highlights (or lowlights) from the new books:

*Israel has become [Israel].

*All mention of “peace conferences” and agreements between the Palestinians and Israelis has been omitted. There is no Cairo Agreement, no Oslo, no Camp David Conference between Yasser Arafat and Ehud Barak, no Hevron Agreement, no Wye Agreement, and no Annapolis talks.

*There is no mention of any Jewish history in Israel whatsoever. The Jewish Quarter has been erased as has any mention of King David and Solomon, any mention of the First and Second Jewish Temple, and any mention of anything else Jewish. Jerusalem is the Muslim city of “Al-Quds”–the “eternal capital of Palestine.”

In reality, all of these “revisions” have been the Palestinian position all along–it is merely more out in the open now. Palestinians have never recognized the Jewish state of Israel, have always attempted to omit and usurp Jewish history, and have always used so-called “peace conferences” and agreements as a means to eventually getting rid of Israel altogether.

And where better to start this process than by brainwashing the minds of Palestinian children.
