The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In Judea and Samaria:

*Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli men, women, and children with Molotovs and “rocks” in Hevron, on Road 458 near Shilo Mevo, at Beit Haggai, at the Gush Etzion spring, near Hawara, just outside of Luban A-Sharqiya, and at various places along Road 443.

Information about these attacks comes from Rescue Without Borders, Rescue 443, hakolhayehudi, hamal, and rotter.

*12 wanted Palestinian terrorists were captured by IDF forces overnight.

On the Gaza border:

Hamas head Yahya Sinwar delivered an incendiary speech in Gaza yesterday calling for the destruction of “the enemy” among other things. See Today’s Blog for more details.

Israel caves in to Jordan again . . .

Several days ago, we wrote about how an active Hezbollah recruiter was captured here in Israel after she came here for a supposed wedding.

Hiba A-Libadi was released this morning by the Israeli government. The statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office said that the release was meant to be “a gesture of goodwill.”

Can you believe this?

A gesture of goodwill? What gesture of goodwill has Jordan ever made to Israel? Jordan takes our water from the Kineret, incites hatred against us on the Temple Mount, introduces endless anti-Israel resolutions in the United Nations, abrogates its own treaty with us in terms of the Island of Peace, sends a Hezbollah recruiter to our countryand now we are making a gesture of goodwill to Jordan?

The bottom line is that when it comes to Jordan, Israel does not have one ounce of self-dignity.

By the way, as if to underscore this point, the Jordanian Foreign Minister just announced that the release of Libadi will have no effect whatsoever on the cases of several Israelis that are imprisoned in Jordan.

An amazing surge in immigrants . . .

Today is “Aliyah Day” in Israel–a day which recognizes all those who have come to this country and made it an even better place to live.

In the first 10 months of this year, 28,629 new immigrants have arrived (compared to only 17,179 in all of 2009 ten years ago).

Where do you think the immigrants have come from? The top 14 countries:

Russia (12,722), Ukraine (5,247), U.S. (2,470), France (1,996), Brazil (552), South Africa (321), Canada (276), Argentina (247), Australia (143), Turkey (143), Mexico (127), Venezuela (93), Iran (57), Thailand (14), and Japan (5).

More good news . . . this time from the Kineret . . .

Despite an extraordinarily hot summer, the level of the Kineret (Sea of Galilee) only fell 60 cm. By comparison, during the summer of 2018, it fell by 1.6 meters.

Why the difference?

Apparently, it was just because the heavy rains of last winter filled the feeder streams into the lake, and they continued carrying water into the lake through the Spring and into the summer.

Too good to be true? . . .

In an extremely surprising ruling today, the Supreme Court decided that Omar Shakir of the ridiculously named “Human Rights Watch” organization can be deported.

More specifically, he has 20 days to leave the country.

You can be sure that there will be a multitude of appeals on Shakir’s behalf before the deadline for his deportation.

A change in the election law? . . .

In the past few days, there has been increased interest among Knesset members in a new law which provides for direct election of a prime minister. The original initiative came from Aryeh Deri, the head of the ultra-orthodox Shas Party, but now people from both sides of the aisle are expressing interest.

Truth If Ever Spoken: Sinwar’s Speech In Gaza Yesterday

Hamas head Yahya Sinwar speaking in Gaza yesterday.

Hamas head Yahya Sinwar speaking in Gaza yesterday.

It is sad to say, but when it comes to Gaza, you cannot believe a word that you hear from any Israeli official. Whether it is PM Netanyahu or IDF Chief Kohavi or anyone else, all one hears is bluster.

About the only person you can believe these days is the head of Hamas in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar.

Yesterday, Sinwar made a significant speech in which he spelled out in graphic detail the power that Hamas has amassed–power that Israel has done nothing to proactively prevent.

Here is some of what he said along with your humble servant’s commentary:

“We have a military force in Gaza Strip that the enemy recognizes. We have hundreds of kilometers of tunnels, hundreds of thousands of booby traps, hundreds of control rooms above and below the ground, thousands of anti-tank missiles and thousands of mortar shells.”

All of this is undoubtedly true. As well it should be, the IDF is now abjectly afraid of waging a ground campaign against Hamas. In the last five years, Israel has permitted Hamas to build ever more tunnels beneath Gaza–all of which have control rooms. And, as we have repeatedly pointed out at OneIsrael, Hamas has obtained, manufactured, and stockpiled well over 10,000 mortars and anti-tank missiles. This is not even to mention another 10,000 Qassam and Grad rockets.

“We can turn the enemy cities into ghost towns if they decide to attack us.”

This is not bluster. Unbelievably, IDF “strategy” now calls for the cities and communities in the South to be evacuated in the event of another war with Hamas. Places like Sderot, Nahal Oz, and dozens of other locations would indeed be ghost towns.

“We have enough missiles to target Tel Aviv for six months in a row.”

This is undoubtedly true.

“The whole world must know that in Gaza there are about 70,000 armed young men from all the Palestinian factions, and we have young people who believe in the Palestinian cause and will achieve the purpose of the people.”

According to most estimates, the 70,000 number may be a slight exaggeration, but there are at least 35,000 members of Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other terror groups in Gaza.

“We have heard the threats Israeli leaders made towards us, but we will still make them curse the day they were born.”

Why should Sinwar fear Israeli bluster? Israel has become a hollow man.

“Iran has a place of honor in front of God in building and strengthening our power. Had it not been for Iran’s financial support, weapons, and transfer to expertise to the resistance in Gaza and Palestine, we would not have reached where we are.”

The fact that Iran has been able to pour money and weapons into Gaza over the last five years right under Israel’s nose is a sad commentary on the state of our government.

Once again, your humble servant would like to clearly state his opinion about what should happen with Gaza. No ground invasion should ever take place; dozens if not hundreds of IDF soldiers would be killed and for what? There is no reason in the world for Israel to try and take over Gaza.

So what should happen? First, all leaders of Hamas and Islamic Jihad should be proactively targeted. Second, Hamas and Islamic Jihad installations should be proactively targeted with Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists inside them; no warning should be given. Third, every time that missiles are launched against southern Israel, a massive, disproportional attack should be carried out against the places where the missile fire is coming from.

Would these three steps stop the missile fire from Gaza? Of course not. But they would certainly put a dent in it.
