The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona Update . . .

*As of this hour (6 pm on Thursday) there are 15,870 confirmed cases of Corona, but 8,412 of these have recovered. 85 Israelis are on ventilators. 219 Israelis have died.

*Even as the Mahane Yehuda Market opened in Jerusalem, PM Netanyahu has ordered a further lockdown of three ultra-orthodox neighborhoods in which social distancing has not been practiced and Corona hotspots have erupted.

*A decision has been made to open Grades 1-3 but to keep kindergartens closed.

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

*Palestinian terrorists penetrated the Tzelim IDF base last night and stole large quantities of ammunition.

*A Palestinian terrorist attempted to knock down the IDF observation post at the Reihan Crossing and ram security guards but was unsuccessful:

*Palestinian terrorists using “rocks” and Molotovs attacked Israelis at Kfar Kadum, on Highway 35 near the Judea Junction, Karmi Tzur, Tekoa, Azzun, Al Fawwar, the bypass junction near Mt. Hevron, and Givat Assaf.

*One of those missiles that the IDF said was not fired in the last outburst of terror from Gaza was found near a residential home in Sderot yesterday. Police sappers defused it.

Speaking of missiles, Hezbollah’s “weapons of mass destruction” . . .

According to an interview on Nziv.net, Richard F. Natonski, Lieutenant General Retired United States Marine Corps says that Israel must wake up before it is too late.

Suggesting that the IDF deliberately understates the missile system possessed by Hezbollah (just as it does Hamas abilities and attacks from Gaza), Natonski said that the “Hezbollah missile system is nothing less than WMD.”

Natonski says what we have been writing for a long time on OneIsrael, namely that Hezbollah has more than 150,000 missiles that have every Israeli military and civilian asset targeted.

In any future war, these missiles will lay waste to Israel killing tens of thousands of Israelis. All of the missile defense systems that Israel possesses will not be nearly enough to stop 150,000 GPS guided rockets.

In the end, Israel will have no choice but to use the nuclear option to survive.

In the interview, Natonski said that it may already be too late to stop Hezbollah.

TODAY’S BLOG

The Israel High Court’s Brazen Power Grab

We have often commented here on the increasing power of the Israel High Court of Justice--a power that the Court has derived out of thin air and a power that increasingly usurps whatever power the Knesset, Prime Minister, and President have.

We have only to look at the last week to see how the Court has brazenly extended its reach into every aspect of Israeli life. Each day has seen another decision which constitutes another power grab.

The first decision last week was the cancellation of the so-called “Infiltrator’s Deposit Law”. This law required that illegal migrants in Israel have 20% of their salary withheld and kept in escrow under their own names. The money would be returned to the illegals once they returned to their own country. The law had actually been working by serving as motivation for illegal migrants to return to their countries.

The Court threw out the law.

Yesterday, in response to a petition, the Court ruled that Israel’s security services can no longer use phone-surveillance technology to track people who have a confirmed case of Corona from violating self-quarantine and other restrictions.

The Court ordered security services to immediately stop phone tracking.

Shortly thereafter, the Court issued yet another decision which not only precludes Justice Ministry appointee Deputy State Attorney Dan Eldad from having his term in office extended but also forbids anyone from appointing a replacement for him, This decision emanated from a petition from Israeli lawyers who said that Eldad’s tenure would not be extended by Attorney General Mandelblit.

Again, the Court simply made up power it didn’t have. Mandelblit’s approval is not required for appointments made by the Justice Ministry.

Finally, and this really shows how far off the deep end the Court has gone in its efforts to take control of every aspect of Israeli life, the Court ruled today that hospital security guards cannot check visitors’ bags for chametz on Passover.

Can you believe this? Israel is in the throes of a major epidemic which has left our economy in tatters, and the Court is micromanaging Israeli life down to the point of leavened bread in hospital visitors’ bags during Passover.

It is simply unbelievable.
