The Palestinians Should “Have A Say” About Israeli Annexation?

The whole brouhaha concerning possible annexation of, or a sovereignty declaration concerning the Jewish communities of Judea and Samaria took both expected and unexpected turns yesterday.

On the expected side, little King Abdullah of Jordan ranted once again about how any such move by Israel would thrust the region into violence. This is the same King Abdullah who had no compunction at all about not extending Israeli agricultural leases on land along the Jordan River in the last half year and who regularly trashes Israel about everything from our Temple Mount to building handicap access at the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hevron.

Also expected and timed to buttress Abdullah was yet another wave of European Union Foreign Ministry threats about severe sanctions that will come if Israel goes through with the sovereignty declaration and annexation. This is the same European Union Foreign Office that already puts labels on goods from Judea and Samaria just as the Nazis did for all Jewish goods in their Jewish “boykotts” in the 1930s.

Somewhat unexpected was a press briefing given by State Department Spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus which followed up on Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s brief trip to Israel a few days ago.

During that stopover, Pompeo remarked repeatedly that sovereignty was an issue for Israel to decide.

Not according to Ortagus–who said that declaring sovereignty can only come as part of peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians based on the Trump vision: “We think these [sovereignty] discussions should be part of the peace process, part of discussions between the Israelis and the Palestinians.”

Then Ortagus added the kicker:

“We really think annexation should be part of a peace process where Palestinians should have a say.”

The Palestinians should have a say as to whether Israel annexes territory or not?

Who is kidding whom?  We all know that there is no way that the PLO or Hamas will ever sign onto annexation, and to think that they will is beyond the absurd.
