Atrocious Quote of the Day

“Our approach today to world leaders says that direct interactions with other public figures, commentary on political issues on the agenda or foreign policy threats on military and economic issues do not generally violate our Twitter rules.”

Ylwa Pettersson, Twitter’s Head of Policy for the Nordics and Israel, testifying yesterday in a Knesset discussion on anti-Semitism

The twitter representative was explaining why Twitter allows Ayatollah Khamenei to post tweets calling for the eradication of Israel, while censoring comments by other public figures such as President Trump. (Click here to see a video of the Twitter representative’s response.)

OneIsrael thanks Arsen Ostrovsky for bringing this astonishing comment to light. Mr. Ostrovsky tweeted this after the Knesset meeting:

@Ostrov_A

I kid you not! At Knesset hearing on Antisemitism, @Twitter rep tells me they flag @realDonaldTrump because it serves ‘public conversation’, but not Iran’s @khamenei_ir call for GENOCIDE, which passes for acceptable ‘commentary on political issues of the day’.

The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona update . . .

As of 8 am this morning (Friday): There are 70,036 confirmed casesan increase of 2,302 since this time yesterday

43,489 of these confirmed cases have recoveredan increase of 10,743

321 are in critical condition–an increase of 16

99 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—the same as yesterday

503 have diedan increase of 12

There are 26,547 active cases.

**In an astonishing statement yesterday, “researchers” at Hebrew University said that Israel has “gained control” over the Corona virus because of “a decrease in the rate of infection” and “an increase in the number of in-home patients.”

A decrease in the rate of infection? Take a look at the numbers–there are approximately 2000 newly confirmed cases of Corona each day–and the only reason that number is so low is because there are numerous places where no testing is taking place.

Oh, and by the way, the “researchers” noted that in the next three weeks we can expect that 200 more Israelis will die from the virus.

Unbelievable.

In Defense of La Familia

Left wing demonstrators were confronted last night in Jerusalem by members of La Familia. Violence erupted and a number of La Familia members were arrested.

Who exactly are La Familia?

La Familia is a group of supporters of the Beitar Jerusalem soccer team, a team in the Israel Soccer Premier League. Consisting mainly of Sephardic and Mizrahi Jews, La Familia formed in 2005, and its members initially were those who were or had been in the Beitar Zionist Youth Movement.

Over the years, La Familia has grown to approximately 5,000 people who sit together in the eastern sections of Beitar Jerusalem’s home field at Teddy Stadium. They are by far the most active and vocal fans at every game–waving Kahanist flags and engaging in many chants which many find offensive.

Most of those chants are directed against Arabs and Islam. After Palestinian terror attacks and at other times, they have been known to chant “Death to Arabs” or “Mohammed was a pedophile.” They are especially active and vocal when Beitar Jerusalem plays Bnei Sakhnin–the only Israeli-Arab team in the Premier League (Sakhnin is a hotspot of anti-Israel and pro-PLO and Hamas sentiment).

For all of their activities and chants, the Israeli and international media have branded La Familia “racist”, “hooligan”, and “far right wing.” Recently, the Israeli television networks in particular have delighted in blaming all violence on the streets of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem on La Familia.

But let’s return for a moment to last night.

Fed up with the endless scenes of anti-Netanyahu and anti-Israel anarchy which passes for “democratic protest” these days in Israel, La Familia put out this statement yesterday morning:

Dear brothers!

As you all know, Israelis and haters of Israel still continue to despise every Jewish symbol and harm any existing Jewish concept. We have never dreamed that this would happen in the State of Israel.

In addition, they continue to upload more and more disgusting sites and videos that despise us and the Jewish religion.

That’s why we do not intend to remain indifferent and sit quietly!

The Beitar Jerusalem fans’ organization is issuing an unusual announcement in the last few minutes as follows: “On Thursday, after the 9th of Av fast, we all meet at the station complex in Jerusalem at 9:30 PM.

Here is our notice to the leftists: The rules of the game are changing from now on. It is very important to make it clear that we have no interest in the politics around us, what is important to us is that the Jewish character remain in the State of Israel, which is crumbling before our eyes.

We have an interest only in the face of extremist anarchists who have crossed the line, and we will not give up !!!

Our strength in our unity?”

As much as some people on the left may despise La Familia, the above statement is one that resonates with many in Israel today–including with your humble servant.

And so La Familia did meet at Teddy Stadium last night when the fast was over–and then went out into the streets of Jerusalem where they made their presence known. This morning, again, they have been branded “racist”, “hooligan”, and “far right.” As we already noted, a number of them were singled out by the Police and arrested “for creating a public disturbance.”

Creating a public disturbance? In my not so humble opinion, La Familia is a healthy antidote to the sheer lunacy that seems to afflict the anarchists who have been creating large public disturbances in Israel everyday.
