The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Three Palestinian terrorists who breached the security fence in the southern Gaza area were captured by IDF troops.

Palestinian terrorists assaulted IDF soldiers with “rocks” and Molotovs at Kubar near Ramallah.

Absurdity on top of absurdity on top of absurdity . . .

As all regular readers of OneIsrael know, the Israel judiciary is a joke. We would laugh about it, but the Israel Supreme Court and its counterpart the so-called High Court of Justice feel that they have right to control every aspect of Israeli life.

Literally every aspect, from how parking tickets are given out in Tel Aviv to the cost of cottage cheese at the supermarket. What makes these courts even more absurd is the fact that they will accept a petition from anyone about anything.

If your lowly humble servant finally got fed up with the trash in my neighbor’s yard, I could file a petition asking for redress.

All of which brings us to the absurdities that happened yesterday.

The Israel Supreme Court announced that it had ruled in favor of a petition filed by Mohammed Badran, a resident of Gaza.

Yes, you read that correctly.

A Palestinian living in Gaza can now file a petition with the Israel Supreme Court. How is this even possible? Palestinians in Gaza are not Israeli citizens, but our courts are now accepting petitions from them.

Not just any petitions, but petitions against the Israeli government.

In Badran’s case, he was demanding that Palestinians living in Gaza who are married to Israeli women (who have moved to Gaza to live with their husband) be allowed to depart Israel from Ben Gurion Airport–instead of being forced to exit via the Allenby Crossing through Jordan.

Why has Israel not allowed residents of Gaza to exit via Ben Gurion?

Simple. The threat of a terror attack. Of course, there could also be a terror attack at the Allenby Crossing, but that would not be nearly as devastating as an attack at the airport.

But that apparently didn’t bother the Court. After all, what could be more important than providing convenience to a “a poor Palestinian”?

There are two larger points to be made.

To begin with, we can now expect a flood of petitions from Gaza whenever the IDF attacks terrorist targets there (though admittedly such attacks have been few and far between lately).

Second, the decision underscores the absurdity that the Court believes that Gaza is part of Israel. By the Court ruling the way it did, the world will look at Gaza the same way, even though Israel left every millimeter of Gaza back in 2005.

A very disturbing trend . . .

The Central Bureau of Statistics reported yesterday that the Jewish population of Israel has fallen below 74% for the first time.

Given the fact that Jewish women are actually having more babies now than Israeli-Arab women, how can we explain this?

Two words.

The Bedouins.

Even though the Bedouins are obviously Israeli Arabs, they are counted separately and their birthrate has exploded to become one of the highest in the world. Typically, each Bedouin man has 4 wives–with a total among the 4 wives of at least 20 children.

It is a situation which is beginning to wreak demographic havoc on Israel and will only worsen if not checked (by making polygamy illegal).

Israelis head to Dubai in ever greater numbers . . .

Yesterday, 15 flights carrying a total of 4,350 passengers flew from Ben Gurion to Dubai on El Al, Israir, Arkia, and FlyDubai.

357,176 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.

There are 1,390 newly confirmed cases.

349 are in critical condition—an increase of 11

102 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—a increase of 1

2,999 have diedan increase of 16

There are currently 16,991 active Corona cases in Israel.

Yesterday, OneIsrael noted that “We will probably reach 3000 dead in the next few days”; in fact we will reach it this morning.

Here is the statistical breakdown since the Corona epidemic began in March:

The average age of death: 78.9

By age groups:

aged 90+ = 20.4% of the total dead

aged 80-89 = 34.2%

aged 70-79 = 25%

aged 60-69 = 11.8%

aged 50-59 = 4.5%

aged 0-49 =  24.5%

Of particular interest is the fact that while those aged 90 and over constitute 20.4% of the total dead, those aged 90 and over only constitute 1.2% of the total population of Israel. Moreover, note that one quarter of those who died were under the age of 50.

In terms of geographical distribution, the 12 cities with the greatest number of fatalities:

Jerusalem: 352 dead

Tel Aviv: 180

Bnei Brak: 145

Bat Yam: 123

Haifa: 113

Ashdod: 103

Holon: 94

Rishon LeZion: 75

Netanya: 71

Petah Tikva: 70

Ramla: 64

Ramat Gan: 62

As you can see, these 12 cities account for nearly 50% of all who have died.

Finally, your humble servant leaves you with one statistic today. If you consider that 357,176 Israelis have been diagnosed with Corona, and 2999 have died as of this morning, this means that the death rate is 0.8396.

In other words, fewer than 1 person out of every 100 who get the virus die.

And that is with no vaccine.
