The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona (Covid-19) update . . .

The following covers the last 24 hours (from 8 am yesterday until 8 am this morning):

359,506 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.

There are 2,330 newly confirmed cases.

375 are in critical condition—an increase of 26

100 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—a decrease of 2

3,004 have diedan increase of 5

There are currently 18,084 active Corona cases in Israel.

Spikes again in newly confirmed cases, the number in critical condition, and the number of active cases: Israelis have become absurdly lackadaisical now that the Pfizer vaccine has arrived here and will begin being administered this coming Sunday.

However, as was pointed out by numerous health professionals in the last few days, it will take at least 2-3 months to see the effect of the vaccines. With more and more daily confirmed cases, Israel is almost certainly headed toward a third major lockdown.

On the Palestinian front . . .

It appears, not for the first time, that Israel is on the verge of a major “swap” with the Palestinian terror group Hamas.

In essence, Israel will agree to release thousands of Palestinian prisoners (apparently even including ones who murdered Israelis) and will facilitate the delivery of Corona vaccines to Gaza in exchange for the body parts of two soldiers killed in the 2014 war and the release of 3 Israeli-Arabs with mental issues who went to Gaza on their own and are being held there.

Here at OneIsrael we sincerely hope that this is not going to be fiasco like all of the other “swaps” before this such as the one for Gilad Shalit. In the past, every swap has led to the release of prisoners who immediately began trying to murder Israelis again.

What’s going on in Eilat? . . .

Your humble servant’s son called last night from Eilat where he and his family are staying for a few days.

He recounted about how they had to drive through a sandstorm to get to the city, then pass through the Corona checkpoint, only to arrive at their hotel just in time before an unusual thunderstorm hit the area.

We joked about that a tornado would likely be the next meteorological event.

This morning, a 3.6 earthquake centered across the bay in Aqaba shook the city.

Welcome Home Bnei Menashe!

252 new immigrants from the Bnei Menashe tribe arrived in Israel yesterday. This tribe was sent into exile at the time of the Assyrian conquest of the northern kingdom of Israel in 712 BCE. They eventually settled in what is today Myanmar and northeastern India.

Now numbering in the tens of thousands, these Jews who maintained their faith through all the centuries are coming home. What a miracle they are!

We welcome them with open arms!
