The News on the Israeli Street

The daily Corona (Covid-19) update . . .

The following covers the last 24 hours (from 8 am yesterday until 8 am this morning):

365,042 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.

There are 4,412 newly confirmed cases.

395 are in critical condition—an increase of 17

154 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—an increase of 56

3,014 have diedan increase of 20

There are currently 20,792 active Corona cases in Israel.

The numbers above are explosive as Corona surges through Israel again. Over 4000 new cases, almost 21,000 active cases, and an increase of 56 who are on ventilators. At the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, researchers revealed yesterday that they expect 100-150 people dead per day next month.

In the face of this data our Corona Cabinet did not punt this morning.

They simply failed to show up and have a meeting.

Such is the dysfunction here in Israel.

By the way, a senior doctor in the Health Ministry commented this morning that people who become vaccinated should continue wearing masks because when they are vaccinated, they become carriers of Corona and may infect other people.

Huge amounts of rainfall . . .

The current storm socking Israel has dumped loads of rain all over the country and flooded parts of virtually every town and city. Roadblocks are up from Highway 90 to Road 234.

One unfortunate result of all the water on the roads has been a sharp increase in the already high number of fatal accidents. In the last few days, more than 10 people have been killed.

Some of the rainfall amounts as of this moment:

Nahalal 180 mm (about 7 inches)

Holon 121 mm

Kfar Saba 115 mm

TODAY’S BLOG:

Odious Benny Gantz:

Ready To Recognize Jerusalem As The Capital of “Palestine”

By this time, no reader of OneIsrael should ever be surprised at what comes out of Benny Gantz’s mouth. Here in southern Israel, we will never forget his idiotically dangerous “anemones” speech while IDF Chief of Staff during the 2014 war with Palestinian Gaza.

In that speech, he encouraged residents of the south who had fled north to escape the missile fire to return to their homes, promising that the war was over and a new season of flowers was about to happen.

Many of them took his advice, returned home, and were hit by another wave of missiles–missiles that killed several people including a child.

In this context, his comments to Saudi newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsat yesterday are not that shocking, but they are as repulsive as ever.

Among other things, Gantz commented:

“Jerusalem will remain united–but there is room for a Palestinian capital.”

Note that Gantz did not even say “a Palestinian capital in eastern Jerusalem”; he declared that Jerusalem can be a Palestinian capital.

Just take a moment and think about that.

Here we have our so-called “Defense” Minister and “Alternate Prime Minister” announcing to the Arab world and the rest of the world that Israel would be willing for Jerusalem to be recognized as the capital of Palestine.

Gantz’s comment may not be surprising but it is beyond outrageous and does nothing except to undermine Israel’s sovereignty over Jerusalem. Gantz might as well establish a new office in Ramallah and become a spokesman for the PLO at the United Nations.

As you can imagine, Israelis from all sides have been quick to denounce Gantz today:

Nir Birkat former mayor of Jerusalem: “Jerusalem is the capital of only one state. The eternal capital of the Jewish people, the capital of the State of Israel.”

Rafi Peretz, current government Minister of Jerusalem: “Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish people. Not the capital of anyone else. This is where our ancestors walked.”

In sum, Benny Gantz is nothing but an odious post-Zionist who should have never been given the positions he is now in. We have no one but PM Netanyahu and his quest to stay in power to thank for that.
