The News On the Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .
Beit Hagai, Mt. Hevron, Road 60, Neve Daniel, Beit Omer, the Al-Abud curve, just outside of Tekoa, the Gush Etzion-Hevron road, Luban A-Sharqiya, at various locations around Qalqilya: these are just a few of the more than two dozen places at which Palestinian terrorists attacked Israelis with “rocks” and Molotovs.

Please note that these numbers encompass from 8 pm Monday to 8 pm Tuesday:
821,762 Israelis have been confirmed with the virus since the pandemic began last March.
There are 1,775 newly confirmed cases.
602 are in critical condition—a decrease of 25
211 of the most critically ill are on ventilators—a decrease of 1
6,037 have died–an increase of 12
There are currently 27,040 active Corona cases in Israel.
5,165,723 million have now received at least one dose of vaccine (82% of these have received two doses).
Major archaeological finds . . .
As you may not know, the Israel Antiquities Commission has been engaged in an extensive project since 2017 to systematically map and explore thousands of Judean caves.
Because of the dry climate, they are considered to be possible treasure troves of scrolls and various human artifacts.
Yesterday brought news that several caves have yielded such treasure in the form of:
*Fragments from a Greek book entitled “The 12 Books of the Minor Prophets” including Zechariah (Chapter 8: verses 16-17):
“These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to one another, render true and perfect justice in your gates. And do not contrive evil against one another, and do not love perjury, because all those are things that I hate—declares the Lord.”
Another fragment is from the book of Nahum (not to be confused with Nehemiah) (Chapter 1: verses 5-6):
“The mountains quake because of Him, And the hills melt. The earth heaves before Him, The world and all that dwell therein. Who can stand before His wrath? Who can resist His fury? His anger pours out like fire, and rocks are shattered because of Him.”

Like the fragments, the coins are from the Bar Kochba period (around 130-135 CE) when Jews hid in the caves while revolting from the Romans.
However there was much more in a cave from much earlier times including:
*A mummified skeleton of a young girl–dated to about 4000 BCE (6,000 years ago):
The mummified corpse of a 6 to 10 year-old girl found blanketed in a fetal position with stone slabs placed over her.
If you look closely, you can see that, remarkably, some of her hair and even toenails are still present–after 6000 years!
And from another cave:
*A basket dated to 10,000 years ago which is the oldest intact basket ever found in the world.

So-called “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz speaking today at the announcement that significant upgrades have been made to the Iron Dome Missile Interceptor System . . .
The citizens of Israel can sleep peacefully?
Hamas and Islamic Jihad have proven time and again that they know how to beat the system. All it takes are their hydraulic launchers firing 12 or 18 missiles at a time for the Iron Dome system to become overwhelmed.
Even more recently, Hamas and Islamic Jihad have discovered that if they fire their missiles during lightning storms, the Iron Dome becomes flummoxed and often does not fire at all.
Either way, missiles from Gaza get through and Israelis are killed or wounded.
All of this is not to mention the basic defect in Israeli’s “multi-layered” missile defense shield. Should war break out with Hezbollah, we will immediately see how our enemy in Lebanon using the same strategy as our enemies in Gaza.
Hezbollah will simply fires hundreds of missiles at a time which will easily overcome any missile defense we have, layered or otherwise.
Consider the fact that with an arsenal of an estimated 200,000 missiles, Hezbollah could fire 500 a day at Israel for 400 days.
400 days.
Can you even begin to imagine what havoc this would wreak?
The citizens of Israel can sleep peacefully at night only if we refuse to think about the reality of missile threat confronting us.
