Israel To The Rescue Again!

C0ntext: Equatorial Guinea, population 1.4 million, is located in sub-Saharan Africa. The only Spanish speaking country is this area, it has been largely closed to outsiders during the “reign” of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema for the last 42 years. Though the citizenry is one of the poorest in Africa, the country is nevertheless rich in natural resources such as oil and gas.

As you may not know, a series of blasts rocked the the country’s main city of Bata (pop. 800,000) back on Sunday, March 7.

Apparently the explosions were caused by military munitions located close to populated areas.

At least 105 people were killed and another 615 were wounded.

When the news of the blasts became known, Israel–as it always does–immediately launched a rescue effort flying in 55 doctors and 12 nurses along with 2000 pounds of medical equipment.

As usual, the Israelis set up a makeshift hospital and began treating people.

Over the next ten days, Israelis treated 725 patients–and performed 92 surgeries on the most critically wounded.

Even more, the Israeli team:

*mapped structures in the city likely to collapse

*created a medical response plan for local medical staff to use

*conducted trainings for multi-casualty events at three local hospitals

In short, Israelis quietly did what we always do when disaster strikes: we came to the rescue.

All of the Israelis returned home yesterday (Friday) after receiving the Equatorial Guinean Medal of Honor.

The head of the delegation, Col. Dr, Fink had this to say: “The relief delegation has fulfilled its mission – saving lives. We are proud to stand by our friend, Equatorial Guinea, and we have honorably represented the State of Israel.”

Indeed they did honorably represent us, as they always do.

No country in the world helps out more when disaster strikes than Israel.
