The News on the Israeli Street

and Today’s Blog

On the Corona front . . .

The news is not good with 227 newly verified cases yesterday (the highest daily total since April 7)–about 0.6% of those tested. Obviously, this far surpasses the magic “100” number the government said would trigger the re-wearing of masks in the country.

Aside from that, the Indian mutation of Covid-19 has been discovered in the sewage of the city of Ashkelon.

This morning we are renewing our daily Corona count so that we can better track what is going on:

840,444 Israelis have been diagnosed with Corona since the beginning of the pandemic.

There are 803 active cases in Israel.

17 Israelis are in critical condition needing a ventilator.

6,429 Israelis have died.

By the way, 6,765 Israelis who have been vaccinated have contracted Corona. This is around 1% of the more than 5,100,000 Israelis who have been vaccinated. According to epidemiological tracing carried out by the Health Ministry, those 6,765 spread the virus to 3,133 more Israelis.

Interestingly, despite the 6,765 cases of Israelis who contracted the virus after being vaccinated, the Health Ministry states that there is no evidence that the Pfizer vaccine is losing its efficacy.

On the Palestinian front . . .

Now that we have had 4 days with no explosive balloons, Israel, stupidly as usual, is rushing pell mell to reward the terrorists in Gaza. The rewards today are an extension of the fishing (smuggling) area to 9 miles, and permission to bring in raw materials (to rebuild the tunnel system) through the Kerem Shalom Crossing.

While these rewards are being doled out, the government has forgotten about the terror in Judea and Samaria. In the last 24 hours:

Palestinian terrorists using “rocks” and Molotovs attacked Israeli motorists between Migdalot and Tapuach, on Road 55 near Nabi Elias, between Tapuach and Akraba, on the Gush Etzion-Jerusalem Road between the Al-Khader Junction and the Tunnel Checkpoint, at Luban A-Sharqiya, Uja, Deir Sharaf, Katav, the Tekoa Junction, and Al-Aruv to name a few places.

Palestinian terrorists using “rocks” and Molotovs attacked Israeli buses near Beitar Damaz and bus 381 between Beit Omer and the Karmi Tzur Junction.

Want to take a vacation from all of this? . . .

Prices for trips abroad have dropped like a rock. 4 nights in a 5-star hotel in Greece will cost a couple about 250 euros. 4 nights at virtually any hotel in Eilat and at the Dead Sea will cost the same couple will cost about 1,300 Euros (5000 shekels).

Nevertheless, given the extraordinary difficulties one must undergo to get in or out of the country because of Corona, hotels in Eilat and at the Dead Sea are packed.

Shabbat Shalom!
