Quote of the Day

“Construction in Area C is essential for the establishment of a Palestinian state.”

Danish Ambassador Katil Carlsen speaking after a meeting with PLO PM Muhammad Eshtiya.

The utter brazenness with which the countries of the European Union are pouring hundreds of millions of euros into Area C of Judea and Samaria to extend the tentacles of the already established Palestinian state in Areas A and B is breathtaking.

All the while, our government does nothing to stem the flow of money and by doing nothing, tacitly goes along with the the European-funded illegal construction there.

The News on the Israeli Street

How long will it be? . . .

1,355 new housing units “marketing tenders” were published yesterday yesterday by the Israel Lands Authority in conjunction with Housing Minister Ze’ev Elkin.

Specifically, 729 units in Ariel, 346 in Beit El, 102 in Elkana, 90 in Geva Binyamin, 57 in Emanuel, 22 in Karnei Shomrom, and 1 unit in Beitar Illit are now being marketed as “for sale.”

This is not the first time over the years that plans have been approved and units marketed; however, virtually every preceding approval and marketing was frozen by then PM Netanyahu.

With the Biden Administration not to mention PM Bennett’s new friends in Jordan and Egypt now roundly and fallaciously condemning what happened yesterday as a violation of international law, your humble servant wonders how long it will be until Bennett follows in Netanyahu’s footsteps?

More Photos From Jerusalem!

Your humble servant offers several more photos from our Jerusalem trip this weekend.

One of many such scenes we encountered: these cafes were just off of Jaffa Street in downtown Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is like Jerusalem of two years ago: packed with people, few wearing masks, and everyone enjoying themselves completely oblivious to Corona.

One of the most delightful features of the city is how grand pianos are all over the place from this one on Jaffa Street to another one just down the road at City Hall. The pianos are just waiting for someone to play.

Jerusalem is also alive with sculpture–much of it for sale. Nowhere more so than in the Mamilla Mall which we walked through many times because it was on the way from our hotel to the Jaffa Gate:

Anyone want to play the flute?

Speaking of the Jaffa Gate, my wife always stops there for a bagele, and it always involves bargaining:

She thinks these are the best bageles in Israel--always coming with a small patch of paper containing zatar.

By the way, the bagel man wanted 10 shekels per bagel; he eventually settled for 7. From there, it was a dive into the Muslim Quarter as we walked to the Kotel:

Note the armed personnel to the left.

In truth, I have not seen as many soldiers, police, and border police in Jerusalem in more than a decade. Everywhere we went we were within a stone’s throw of security personnel. We actually followed these three all the way down to the Kotel. Most of that walk looked like this:

A clash of colors bursting out from every kitschy touristy store on the "street."

Tomorrow, I will tell you one fascinating “thing” that happened to us one evening, and will share with you the most exciting photo I made.
