Terrorists continually try to infiltrate Israel from all directions whether it be from Gaza, Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria, Lebanon, and Syria. Increasingly, another “hot” border is the one with Jordan.

Last night, IDF fighters and police from the Yigal Unit captured two terrorists who were attempting to smuggle weapons from Jordan into Israel: eight pistols, two Kalashnikov rifles, and an M16.

The News on the Israeli Street

New Corona information . . .

According to a statement from the Health Ministry last night, around 500,000 young people aged 0-18 have fallen ill with Corona during the course of the pandemic.

That’s 500,000 out of the 1.38 million who have been infected–in other words about 40% of all infected people have been young people.

11 of those infected diedall of them had “background” illnesses.

Palestinian terror overnight . . .

Palestinian terrorists attacked IDF soldiers near Tubas. One terrorist was killed in the ensuing firefight.

Israelis take matters into their own hands . . .

Following in the footsteps of Galilee farmers who now patrol their property on horseback, and orthodox Jews who have formed defense squads in Jerusalem, and Beersheva residents who have come together to protect themselves–especially women–on the streets of the city, we now have the residents of the Binyamin area taking to the roads to stop the plague of “rock” and Molotov attacks.

A spokesman for the group had this to say: “We, the residents of the area, have decided not to abandon our wives and children in the face of the attackers. As of this morning, we are securing the roads ourselves.”

What is the common denominator in the Galilee, Jerusalem, Beersheva, and now Binyamin?

Police negligence and incompetence.

By the way, the IDF changes its “open fire” regulations . . .

The IDF announced yesterday that it is now authorizing soldiers on bases in southern Israel near the Egyptian and Jordanian borders to fire on smugglers and thieves who have infiltrated the bases.

It’s wonderful that the IDF is now willing to finally protect weapons and ammunition, but what about our soldiers stationed along the border? When will they be able to open fire on terrorists who are attacking them?

The Turkish farce continues . . .

Several day ago, we reported on the Israeli couple (two Egged bus drivers from Modi’in) who decided to take a vacation to Turkey only to get arrested on a cruise through Istanbul for taking photographs from the boat of Turkish PM Erdogan’s palace.

What exactly the Turks are after is unclear though your humble servant suspects they are angry because the Israeli Knesset is about to correctly declare what the Turks did to the Armenians “a genocide.”

In any case, the couple ridiculously remains behind bars while Israeli “diplomats” try to work out a solution with the Erdogan Administration.

TODAY’S BLOG:

Egypt Expands Its Buffer Zone Along the Gaza and Israel Borders

Two maps tell the story:

Map 1 shows the buffer zone that Egypt created on its Gaza border back in 2014:

The old buffer zone of 79 km2.

Map 2 shows the new buffer zone that Egypt began creating today:

The new zone: note the old one in dark color in the upper right corner.

The new zone: note the old one in dark color in the upper right corner.

The new buffer zone is more than just drawing lines on a map–it will result in the forced relocation of tens of thousands living in the area–primarily Egyptian Bedouins.

The primary reason for the buffer zone is to stop terrorists and smugglers from getting in and out of Gaza, as well as smugglers from going back and forth between the Egyptian Sinai and Israel.

Of course, we all know that Hamas will find a way to circumvent the new zone as will the Bedouins, but at least the Egyptians are taking concrete action which is more than Israel can do.

What do you think the world outcry would be Israel displaced the Bedouins on the Israel side of the border in an area equal to that of the Egyptian buffer zone?
