Wishing You An Easy Fast

Today is the Fast of Gedalia which laments the assassination of the righteous governor of the Kingdom of Judea. His death marked the end of Jewish independence after the destruction of the First Temple and the fall of King Hezekiah.

These are the start and end times of the Fast:

Jerusalem
Fast begins – 5:18 a.m.
Fast ends – 6:50 p.m.

Tel Aviv
Fast begins – 5:20 a.m.
Fast ends – 6:48 p.m.

Fascinating Statistic of the Morning

As regular readers of OneIsrael know, the birthrate in orthodox neighborhoods of Jerusalem exceeds 8 children per family.

Why is this relevant this morning?

Because 100 babies were born on Rosh Hashana at Sha’are Zedek Hospital that serves the orthodox community.

100 babies in one day.

By the way, one of your humble servant’s daughters-in-law will give birth to twins at Sha’are Zedek this week.

Another Sickening Phone Call

First it was a Happy New Year call from the terrorist chairman of the PLO Mahmoud Abbas to our loathsome “Defense” Minister Benny Gantz.

Yesterday, Abbas called President Isaac Herzog to wish him the same.

During the call, Herzog idiotically called for good neighborly relations between Israel and the Palestinians– idiotically, because Abbas does everything he can to undermine such relations.

According to Herzog, the two “hope there will be increased civil and security cooperation in the coming year and quiet and security will be restored.”

How pathetic can you get?

One of the people most responsible for violent attacks on Israelis (see below) called for “quiet and security.”

Actually, what Abbas is most interested in is “increased civil and security cooperation.”

Not to stop violence, but to help Abbas maintain his grip on power in the face of threats from Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 48 hours . . .

Reports sent in to Rescue Without Borders indicate that in the last two days, there have been more than 50 terror attacks in Judea and Samaria such as:

Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli pedestrians with Molotovs in Erez Alley on the way to the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hevron and at Beit Romano in Hevron.

Palestinian terrorists opened fire on Israeli motorists on Road 463 near the Horseshoe Junction.

Palestinian terrorists tried to burn down the security fences at Psagot and Beit El.

Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli motorists with “rocks”, IEDs, and Molotovs at Deir Nizam, between Hatmar Shomron Square ane the Large Yitzhar Junction, on Road 465 near Neve Tzuf, on the Gush Etzion-Hevron Road near Al Aruv, on Road 55 between Azzun and Shomron, and at Luban a-Sharqiya.

Palestinian terrorists opened fire on IDF soldiers at Gibeon, at the pillbox between Dotan and Homesh, and at Avitar.,

Palestinian terrorists destroyed a vineyard north of Esh Kodesh.

Palestinian terrorists placed an IED on train tracks near Road 85, on the road north of Shiloh, and in the Jordan Valley near the Bekaot Barrier.

TODAY’S BLOG

A Shout Out To The International Fellowship

of Christians and Jews (IFCJ)

Yael Eckstein

Yael Eckstein, President of the IFCJ

In case you are unfamiliar with the IFCJ, it is a wonderful organization founded by Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein. According to its website, the IFCJ builds “bridges of understanding between Christians and Jews and broad support for the state of Israel.”

When Rabbi Eckstein died unexpectedly from a heart attack in 2019, his daughter Yael took over the reins of IFCJ. Under her magnificent leadership, IFCJ has not missed a beat.

Some of the organization’s programs include: “On Wings of Eagles” which helps Jews immigrate to Israel, “Stand for Israel” which mobilizes Christian support for Israel, and “Guardians of Israel” which delivers food and medical care to the needy here in Israel and even renovates bomb shelters.

This holiday season IFCJ has donated 28 million shekels in the form of gift cards to help purchase food and clothing for those in need. The hope is to reach “100,000 families, senior citizens, Holocaust survivors, single parents, lone soldiers and others nationwide in cooperation with the Welfare and Immigration Absorption Ministries, and in partnership with government welfare branches and dozens of local organizations on the ground – including Yad B’Yad, Latet, Eshel and Colel Chabad.”

In an interview this week, Eckstein said: “We see that we are amidst a particularly challenging period for the country’s poor, single parent families, elderly and new immigrants fleeing their war-torn homes. Prices for even basic needs have gone up considerably, and the demand on the welfare organizations around the country is simply skyrocketing and they are struggling to keep up.”

The purpose of this blog today is to call your attention to this wonderful organization. You can find out more about it at: https://www.ifcj.org
