Election Update 6 (the final of the day)
8:30 pm Wednesday
Orli Adas, the CEO of the Election Committee for the Knesset Channel has just issued this somewhat ominous statement: “There are 120-150 ballot boxes left. We will finish counting them in the next two hours. There are 45o,000 double envelope votes that will be counted after that. There could definitely be a change in the voting percentage that will change the map.”
We say “ominous” Israel is like Chicago: votes sometimes appear and disappear at the end of vote counts as needed by various candidates. The count so far today has left the two most leftist parties in the Knesset out in the cold. Would it be a big surprise to see both of them pass the threshold at the last minute?
We’ll see tomorrow.
Election Update 5
1:30 pm Wednesday
The news coming out of the Election Commission has slowed, and we are now relying on leaks provided by reporters who have contacts on the inside.
Apparently, all of the “normal” votes have been counted. By “normal”, we mean valid votes cast yesterday.
What have not been counted are the “double envelope” votes. These are votes cast by diplomats, soldiers, and even prisoners. When those votes are counted, the final results will be announced–an announcement scheduled to come tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.
Again “apparently”, nothing has changed in the seat distribution reported in Election Update 4 below. The critical points are that Meretz and Balad have still not gotten enough votes to pass the 3.25 threshold even though they both remain on the verge of doing so.
If neither does, and that is a big if, a Netanyahu coalition could have as many as 64 or 65 seats.
Again, we hesitate to analyze the results until we have the final results. Too many Israeli elections have been decided at the last minute in the last batch of votes.

As of this hour, 84.3 % of the votes have been counted. Seats would be distributed as follows (note that this will change, perhaps greatly over the next few hours). Also note the differences between now and 90 minutes ago in our previous update:

However, Meretz is extremely close to the 3.25% threshold with 3.20% of the vote, and Balad has 3.05%. If either of these parties manages to pass the threshold, the landscape could change dramatically.
Projections continue to suggest that the Netanyahu bloc will wind up with 62 seats. We will wait at OneIsrael for more votes to be counted before analyzing the results.
