The Gaza War: Day 140 . . . The War in the North

UPDATE 6:00 AM

The Terror Attack Yesterday Morning

The sequence of events:

1. Three Palestinian terrorists from the Bethlehem area arrived on Highway 1 between Maale Adumim and Jerusalem.

2. They jumped out of their car and began firing M16 automatic weapons at civilians who were in vehicles in a traffic jam.

3. Two of the terrorists were killed by civilians and security forces on the spot. The 3rd terrorist was badly wounded and is now, disgustingly, being treated at Hadassah Hospital.

4. One Israeli, Matan Elmaliah, was killed at the scene, and another 8 were wounded including a 23-year-old pregnant woman.

In the aftermath of the terror attack, PM Netanyahu, Defense Minister  Gallant, Finance Minister Smotrich decided to convene the Supreme Planning Council to approve thousands of housing units in Jewish communities as follows: Ma’ale Adumim 2,350 units,Kidar 300 units, and Efrat 694 units.

Finance Minister Smotrich said afterwards:

“Let every terrorist plotting to harm us know that any raising of a hand against the citizens of Israel will be met with a blow of death and destruction and the deepening of our eternal grip on the entire Land of Israel.”

Absurd Decisions By the IDF

Even as missile fire from Gaza continues with no end in sight, the IDF General Command said that it is possible for citizens to return to these communities on the border: Zikim, Carmia, Yad Mordechai, Erez, Or Hanar, Ivym, Sderot, Nir Am, Gavim, Mefalsim, Saad, Alumim, Reim, Magen, Nir Yitzhak, Shlomit, Neve and Beni Netzer.

Unbelievable. No Israeli in his or her right mind would heed this announcement and return while the war rages on.

If that is not unbelievable enough, the IDF also announced that special standby security forces that were established in border communities during the war, will be disbanded by the end of February.

Unbelievable.

So let’s get this straight. The IDF General Command believes that it is safe for residents to return even though they will have even less security from possible terrorist infiltrations, and continued missiles from Gaza.

Just plain unbelievable.

*Do you know how many “humanitarian” aid trucks entered Gaza yesterday?

Zero.

Why? Because of the continued demonstrations against the aid.

Kolakevod to those demonstrators!

Netanyahu’s “Day After” Plan

Yesterday, PM Netanyahu presented his plan for what the day after the Gaza war will look like. Of course, it is likely to change many times, but this is the basis:

1. The IDF will continue until the military capabilities and governmental entities of HamISIS and Islamic Jihad are destroyed and the hostages are returned.

2. Israel will maintain freedom of IDF action indefinitely in all of Gaza to prevent the renewal of terrorism.

3. The security/buffer zone that Israel has created in Gaza will exist as long as security demands it.

4. Israel is maintain security control over the entire area west of the Jordan River including Gaza and Judea and Samaria.

5. Israel will turn over civil administration and responsibility for public order to local officials with administrative experience.

6. Israel will undertake a comprehensive de-radicalization plan in all Palestinians religious, educational, and welfare institutions.

7. Israel will work to close UNRWA and replace it will “responsible” aid agencies.

8. Israel rejects international dictates and resolutions regarding a permanent settlement with the Palestinians and insists that such settlements can only be made through direct negotiations without preconditions.

9. “Israel will continue to oppose the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state. Such recognition in the wake of the October 7 massacre would give a huge reward to unprecedented terrorism and prevent any future peace settlement.”

Taken in total, this is a good basic plan with room, however, for much improvement.
