Are We Living in the Middle Ages?

**Another gruesome Palestinian terror attack last night . . .

Imagine that you are standing at a gas pump putting gas in your car. It’s a lovely night and nothing is amiss. Suddenly, you are stabbed from behind in the back and in the shoulder. You crumple to the ground but manage to turn around at which point shots are fired and the person who assaulted you is killed.

This is the life of Israelis living in the lawless areas of Judea and Samaria, and the description you just read is exactly what happened last night at a gas station on Road 443. Fortunately, the terrorist was killed by an alert nearby IDF soldier as the attacker looked ran toward other people to stab.

The Israeli is in “moderate” condition today at Sha’are Zedik Hospital.

**A Swedish spy for Hezbollah was captured at Ben Gurion Airport yesterday?

The above question sounds unlikely until you learn that the Swedish spy is named Hassan Khalil Hizran and that he is a dual Lebanese-Swedish citizen. Hizran was in Israel to map potential Hezbollah targets.

It turns out that the massive Arab community in southern Sweden has become a fruitful recruiting ground for Hezbollah and other terror groups.

**If the Obama Administration does it and the U.S. Supreme Court affirms it, it must be all right . . .

The Brazilian government has announced that it is marching in lock step with Barack Obama and John Kerry. Brazilians who were born in “Jerusalem Israel” have had their passports recalled so that new ones can be issued with the word “Israel” deleted.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The government’s unabashed trampling of the rights of Israeli citizens continues. A just-disclosed incident yesterday shows how bad it has gotten.

Two unnamed minors were hitchhiking in Samaria late Saturday night. Suddenly, Israeli security personnel (Shin Bet, Border Guards, police) swooped in, took them into custody with no warrant, and kept them all night–finally releasing them at 7 am Sunday morning.

During their 8 hours of arrest, the parents of the boys frantically searched for them and even reported them missing to the police. They were met with a wall of silence.  It was only in the morning that they learned that their children were alive and well.

Well not so “well”.

After a sleepless night of nonstop interrogations, the boys were most decidedly not all right, and there is a report today that the families will be filing charges against the government and the police.

And so they should.

This incident was one of many between Friday and today. Following the “detention orders” filed against Meir Ettinger, Evyatar Slonim, and Mordechai Mayer, the same security personnel have detained at least 25 other government-called “Jewish extremists” ostensibly for attempting to get information about who carried out the attack at Duma which left two Palestinians dead.

Specifically, the government is targeting the Jewish communities of Adei Ad and Givat Belladim–two communities which are heavily composed of what are called “the hilltop youth”. These are the people that the government loves to run to arrest every time it needs to look like it is doing something.

But again, this time around, no one is being accused of any crime. There is apparently no evidence whatsoever that any of “the hilltop youth” participated in the Duma incident in any way.

In fact, an unnamed Shin Bet source admitted as much today when he commented that the purpose of the “detentions” (aka arrests) is threefold: to produce evidence to implicate suspects (are we living in the Middle Ages when Jews were brought in and subjected to excruciating “interrogations” to inform on other Jews?), to prevent future attacks (an odd goal given the dearth of convictions against any of the “extremist Jews” for anything); and to make the “Hilltop Youth” aware that they are being constantly observed.

Can you believe any of this? This is supposed to be a democratic government?

Even left-wing organization B’Tselim–that your humble servant continually criticizes for the vile ways that it delegitimizes Israel–has this to say about the detentions:

“Israel’s administrative detention of extreme right-wing activist Mordechai Mayer and planned administrative detention of two other such activists, reportedly authorized by the Attorney General, is unacceptable.”

Of course your humble servant vehemently disagrees with the appellation “extreme right-wing”, but otherwise finds himself in agreement with B’Tselim for possibly the first time.
