Happy Lag B’Omer!
Israel began Lag B’Omer celebrations last night. This holiday occurs on the 33rd day of the seven week period between Passover and Shavuot. The holiday is normally celebrated most joyously at the grave of third century Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai (the Rashbi) on Mt. Meron in northern Israel. Tens of thousands go to his gravesite to sing, dance, and light bonfires.
The News On The Israeli Street
Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours in Judea and Samaria . . .
There was a major bus attack between Immanuel and Deir Istiya last night. At least half a dozen Israelis were wounded when their bus was struck by rocks and Molotovs.
Speaking of Judea and Samaria . . .
A disturbing but unsurprising survey was released today concerning the attitudes of IDF reservists serving in Judea and Samaria. Some of the findings:
*93% have experience situations in which terrorists have used civilians including children as human shields.
*86% believe that the IDF suppresses information about what is really going on in Judea and Samaria.
*84% are afraid to go after terrorists and even to defend themselves because of fear of being taken to court by left-wing organizations that terrorists bring to the scene of almost every terror attack.
*44% believe that the IDF does not support its own soldiers.
As we have often commented on israelstreet, the soldiers serving in Judea and Samaria deserve our utmost gratitude. The way they are thrown under the bus by the IDF general command is beyond outrageous.
Once again Israel is to blame . . .
The World Health Organization (WHO) passed a resolution yesterday accusing Israel of a causing a health crisis in Gaza and in Areas A and B of Judea and Samaria–areas that are under 100% Palestinian administrative control.
The way that the world absolves the Palestinians of any responsibility for themselves is absolutely absurd.
To the world, the Palestinians are just helpless infants who cannot take care of or even feed themselves.
Maybe the WHO should invest in diapers.
Once a terrorist always a terrorist . . .
In case you missed it, it was revealed the other day that more than 150 terrorists released in the infamous Gilad Shalit deal in 2011 have resumed their terrorist ways—and have murdered 10 more Israelis so far.
Your humble servant was thinking about this when he saw this picture this morning:
Kozo Okamoto.
In case you have forgotten, Okamoto was one of three members of the Japanese Red Army who carried out the terror attack at Ben Gurion Airport on May 30, 1972. In that attack, they opened fire in the baggage claim area, murdering 26 people and severely wounding 71 more. Okamoto’s cohorts were killed in the attack.
Absurdly, Okamoto was spared the death penalty and instead sentenced to life in prison (the picture on the right is of him in court). Even more absurdly, he was released in 1985 as part of a prisoner exchange with the Palestinians.
To this day, he has never expressed remorse for what he did and lives in a suburb of Beirut. Every year, on or near the date of the Ben Gurion massacre, he is trotted out as a “hero” by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The picture on the left was taken yesterday.
In case you missed it . . .
The Iraqi Parliament is set to approve legislation that would demand that Israel compensate Iraq for the nuclear reactor that Israel destroyed at Osirak in 1981.
Amazing.
The Egyptians want compensation for the ten plagues that led to the Exodus, and now Iraqis want compensation for a nuclear plant that would have produced nuclear bombs to murder us.
Just amazing.
News around the world . . .
*Rabbi Elyahu Shaman who doubles as a cantor at a synagogue in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo, was brutally assaulted when he returned from prayer services on Saturday evening. Shaman was beaten around the face and hands while onlookers laughed and hurled racial epithets against Jews. Shaman eventually made it to a hospital where he is in “serious” condition.
*Photographs of Holocaust survivors lined up in exhibition along the Ringstrasse Road in Vienna were defaced with swastikas yesterday. This came several days after numerous photos were slashed with a knife.
*Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki proclaimed once again yesterday that under no circumstances will Poland pay restitution for Jewish property taken during World War II– and afterwards.

“Gone Fishing”: Israel On Fire
You will recall that two days ago, terrorists in Gaza declared that on Thursday they would burn southern Israel to the ground.
They are in the process of making good on that threat.
Thus far today, 48 fires of varying sizes have been started in southern Israel by explosive balloons from Palestinian Gaza which are carrying a new combustible material. Zikim, Karmiya, the Sha’ar Hanegev area, Kiryat Malachi, the Be’eri Forest, the coast south of Ashkelon, Eshkol, Moshav Zohar, Iyim, and Nahal Oz have been among the hardest hit areas with multiple fires in each location.
In addition to the fires in the south, slightly further north a major fire(s) has struck the Modi’in area and the communities of Mevo Modiin, Gimzo, Kfar Daniel, Shilat, Kfar Rut, Neot Kedumim, Ben Shemen, Mateh Yehuda, Moshav Tarom, and Beit Haggai are in the process of being evacuated. It is believed but unconfirmed that this fire (these fires?) were also started by incendiary devices from Gaza.
So what is our pusillanimous government doing to combat this plague of fires?
The Netanyahu government announced this morning that is reducing the fishing range available to Palestinian fishermen from 15 to 10 miles.
That’s it.
Total.
Yes, you read all of that correctly.
Palestinian terrorists in Gaza try to burn Israel to the ground, and the government sits on its hands and does nothing.
Our government leaders have “gone fishing.”
