IMPORTANT UPDATE AT 3:52 PM. THE NEWEST ‘CEASEFIRE’ HAS JUST BEEN BROKEN BY A HAMAS GRAD ROCKET ATTACK AGAINST ISRAELI CIVILIANS JUST SOUTH OF ASHKELON. BE SURE TO LOOK IN THE RIGHT HAND COLUMN UNDER ‘ISRAELSTREET BREAKING NEWS!’ FOR EVOLVING INFORMATION.

More Hamas missiles hit southern Israel last night bringing to 16 the total number that struck Thursday. At 1 am this morning (Friday), Hamas’ underling, Islamic Jihad, declared that it was about to expand its range of missile fire into Israel by firing rockets that will hit Tel Aviv. Twenty-two minutes later, Islamic Jihad declared that as of 1 pm, this afternoon, it was declaring a ‘temporary ceasefire’.

What is the bottom line in the surreal world of southern Israel? Nothing has changed. If you remember, another temporary ceasefire was declared last Sunday night. Over 30 rockets have been fired at southern Israel since then; here in Ashdod, we were warned of impending Grad rocket attacks twice yesterday and spent considerable time in our bomb shelter.

And the response of Ehud Barak and the IDF continues to disgust all who live here. This morning Barak is quoted as saying “I’m extremely satisfied by the achievement [of gaining another ‘ceasefire’] that shows “we mean business and we are not going to accept the massacre of civilians on the roads.” Satisfied by what achievement? What ‘business’ do we ‘mean’? On the roads (we will accept the massacre in their houses–but not on the roads!)? Barak has indeed become delusional and must be fired.

As for us in the south, we have been ordered by the Home Front Command not to have large outdoor events, and to always remain near a bomb shelter. It appears that the Home Front Command is not buying what Barak is selling either.

Israelstreet has a slightly new look this morning. There is now a scrolling ‘israelstreet breaking news’ marquee in the right hand margin which will detail all events regarding attacks on southern Israel. This seems to be a better solution than adding updates to the main blog all day long.

More than this, your humble servant would like to thank all of you dear readers for your support during the last week. Nearly 1500 viewers watched the youtube of our family in the bomb shelter, and our readership to this blog is ever-growing and worldwide. Here is a list of countries whose citizens have come to israelstreet in the past week (you should see ‘yourself’ in this list):

Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Ecuador, France, Egypt, Germany, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Latvia, Malaysia, Malta,  Mexico, Morocco, the  Netherlands, Nigeria,  Norway, Poland, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United States (34 states!)
