SPECIAL NOTICE Saturday May 24–Tuesday May 27
Your humble servant is on his way from his home in the United States to his home in southern Israel and will update this blog sporadically for the next 72 hours. Thank you for your patience!
UPDATE Sunday 3 pm:
As your humble servants sits here in Frankfurt awaiting his flight to Israel in a few hours, he has been struck by the way the Pope Francis transformed himself into a mouthpiece for the PLO during his whirlwind tour. From the moment that a sullen Pope spoke on the tarmac at Ben Gurion about “Palestine” and protecting the “sovereign rights” of the Palestinians, his visit to Israel has been little more than a propaganda show for the PLO.
Never mind that Francis broke the status quo of centuries by performing a mass over the Tomb of David in Jerusalem, or that he has attempted to undermine the Israeli government by bypassing its elected officials to invite Shimon Peres and Abu Mazen (Mahmoud Abbas) to a “prayer summit” in Rome in two weeks, or that he rushed to meet with the abominable Grand Mufti, it was his non-scheduled visit to the separation fence following his mass in Bethlehem that has been headline news here in Europe and around the world.
A good example is the front page of the Financial Times today which has a huge picture of the Pope praying at the fence with the caption “Pope Francis in Bethlehem at the wall that separates Israel from the West Bank. The Pope delighted his hosts by paying tribute to the Palestinian struggle against occupation.”
“Delighted” indeed. In fact, his appearance at the fence was the grossest of publicity stunts.
What was disgusting about the Pope’s appearance at the separation fence was the particular portion of the fence at which he prayed–graffitied with the phrase “Bethlehem look (sic) like the Warsaw Ghetto.” Just the thought that the Pope would buy into such a vile comparison is odious in the extreme.
As the Pope leaves Israel today, your humble servant can only say “Good riddance.”
UPDATE Saturday 5 pm:
Europe continues its descent into the anti-Israel and anti-Semitic abyss.
Two Israelis, Miriam (53) and Emanuel (54) Riva of Tel Aviv were shot and killed one hour ago at the Jewish Museum in Brussels, Belgium. The murderer arrived at the Museum in an Audi, got out, and opened fire in the museum’s entrance hall. Two others were badly wounded.
The Rivas leave behind two teenage daughters aged 15 and 16.
By the way, the Riva’s murderer calmly got back in his car after his shooting spree and escaped.
Four hours later at about 8 pm, two Jews were attacked while leaving a synagogue in Creteil, France, southeast of Paris. The two were beaten by two men with pipes and sticks. As is usual in Europe these days, the attackers escaped and the Jews were taken to a nearby hospital in “moderate” condition.
Europe of today is the same Europe of the 1930s.
