The News on the Israel Street Today

Palestinian terror never stops . . .

In the last 12 hours (from 6 am until 6 pm):

*An IDF patrol operating along the Gaza border was fired upon by Palestinian snipers in Gaza. No soldiers were wounded.

*Israeli civilians have been attacked in Hevron, Bir Zeit, near El Khader (bus hit), Hizma (bus hit) , Zif Junction, Road 55, Tekoa (“rock” smashed car windshield causing crash), Jericho (bus passengers treated for trauma), Yitzhar (arson), Ofra (bus hit), Givat Ronen (arson), Beit El, and Ariel among other places.

While all of this terror was going on, where were the police? . . .

Instead of protecting their fellow Israelis, the police and Civil Administration continue on their warpath to destroy Jewish residences, greenhouses, and other buildings. Today the target was the Zeit Ra’anan neighborhood of Neria.

The man on the roof of his container at Givat refused to leave until he was surrounded and forcibly removed by the police (hakolyehudi).

Can you believe this? The police don’t have anything better to do than harass Jewish community members and destroy their property?

Another “hard to believe” on the Temple Mount this morning . . .

Again, we have a policeman run amok–this time verbally attacking a Jewish woman. See if you can figure out from the picture what was happening:

This is a screen shot from a video (hence the "play" arrow). You can just see the head of the policeman as he approaches the woman beside the wall.

That something else was her baby. When the baby began crying, she attempted to breastfeed it only to be shouted at by the policeman who threatened to arrest her if she continued.

Unconfirmed news from Jordan . . .

According to senior Jordanian sources, Mahmoud Abbas is hospitalized in a Jordanian military hospital in Amman in critical condition.

However, there is no corroboration of this story–and it would not be the first time that Abbas’ condition has been falsely reported.

Israel bombs another Iranian arms depot . . .

Early this morning, the IAF attacked weapons stored in an Iranian arms depot just outside of Damascus. Five explosions rocked the area. The weapons were again headed for Hezbollah.

The cleanest beach in Israel is . . .

Permit your humble servant a little pride as his home city of Ashdod was named the cleanest coastal area in Israel today. Other cities on the clean beach list included: Eilat, Jisr a-Zarka, Be’er Tuvia, Emek Hefer, Rishon LeZion, Tel Aviv-Yafo and Mate Asher.

The dirtiest beaches in Israel are: Galim Beach in Haifa, Poleg North Beach in Netanya, and Arsuf South Beach in Arsuf (central Israel north of Tel Aviv).

The Die is Cast: Trump Arrives May 22

The details of the President’s upcoming visit to Israel continue to drip out. Here’s what we “apparently” know so far:

1. Trump will arrive on May 22, one day before Yom Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Day).

2. Trump will be accompanied by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, and US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman*.

3. The visit will last one day and is intended to kick off a new round of Israeli-Palestinian peace “negotiations.”

What is being widely speculated on the Israel street is that Trump will express his support for a Palestinian state–and will declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel. However, there is no report of any movement of the American Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

It is also widely speculated that Netanyahu has offered concessions to get Abbas to the so-called “negotiating table”, and Israel has received no concessions from the Palestinians in return.

If this is true, then what we wrote yesterday on this blog remains true. Once again, Israel is sliding down a dangerous slippery slope that leads to nothing except more violence.

Let’s hope that your humble servant is wrong.

*It has been more than a month since David Friedman was confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Your humble servant finds it odd that he has yet to come to Israel and present his credentials.
