The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Numerous attacks, Israelis physically wounded and others treated for trauma, cars smashed–this is what happened yesterday:

Palestinian terrorists attacked at the Hevron Bypass Road, on the Gush Etzion Road, on Road 465 beside Deir Nizam, at Amos, El Mu’ayir, Sinjil, Levona, Havat Yehuda, Luban al Sharqiya, Ofra, Nebi Saleh, Halhul, A-Ram, on Road 375 the Husan Bypass Road, in the Judean Hills, Hevron, El-Arub, Deheisheh, Hebron Hills, A-Tur, Ras Abu Beitan, Beit Furik, Beit El, Yatta, Rachel’s Tomb, Hermala, and Psagot.

Palestinian terrorists (14) were captured in Jebel Indaza overnight along with a cache of automatic weapons.

Please note that the above reports are taken from citzens on the ground as reported to Rescue Judea and Samaria, rotter, and hakolhayehudi.

Our so-called “Defense” Minister leaves us open to attack, again . . .

Following the tragic murders at Har Adar and the apparent involvement of hideous members of Machsom Watch (a “humanitarian” NGO that supposedly monitors the checkpoints, but in reality does little except demean Israeli soldiers), a complaint was lodged against the organization.

The purpose of the complaint was to keep members of Machsom Watch away from the checkpoints so that they cannot interfere with IDF soldiers who are doing their best to stop terrorists.

Yesterday, “Defense” Minister Lieberman ordered that Machsom Watch can remain at the checkpoints. There was no rationale given for this outrageous decision except that IDF soldiers are used to dealing with Machsom Watch.

Sure, just like the soldier who was apparently yelled at by a leader of Machsom Watch at Har Adar just before he was murdered. Whether his killing was facilitated by the fact that he was distracted, we’ll never know.

The Gaza border remains tense . . .

The IDF is still waiting for the Islamic Jihad shoe to drop following the destruction of the tunnel leading into Israel nearly two weeks ago. According to intelligence reports, the Islamic Jihad leadership in Damascus has ordered its local branch in Gaza to retaliate.

In the last 24 hours, the number of IDF soldiers on the Gaza border has been increased.

Israelis are living longer . . .

Than they were back in 1970.

The newest OECD statistics show that life expectancy has increased here from 71.8 years back then to 80.6 years now. This increased longevity has occurred despite the fact that 53% of Israelis are overweight with 17% of these overweight people being obese.

Syrian Ceasefire:

Iran Accomplishes Exactly What It Wanted

A Syrian ceasefire has essentially been written by the U.S. and Russia which will establish a buffer zone along the Israeli-Syrian border, and will dictate that Iranian-backed Shi’ite militias be moved to a distance NOT EXCEEDING 20 km from the Israeli border on the Golan Heights.

Are you following this?

In other words, the maximum that any Shi’ite militia will be away from our border is 20 km.

In fact, the distance that the Shi’ite militias must be from the Israeli border is actually determined by the current location of the Syrian rebels. The agreement specifies that there must be a 5 km space between the rebels and the Iranian-backed troops.

Along much of the border, the rebels hold positions that are 15 km away from the border. In those cases, the Iranian militias will be pushed back to 20 km away from Israel.

The problem is that in other locations such as the northern Golan Heights beside Mt. Hermon and Majdal Shams, the rebel position is a thin line right along the Israel border. According to 5 km rule, Iranian militias will be permitted to be within 5 km of that position–in essence, approximately 5 km from our border.

Israel has apparently made clear to all parties concerned that it will not abide by the terms of the buffer zone ceasefire, and that we feel free to attack any entity that poses a threat to us. However, it must be said that Iran has accomplished exactly what it wanted–to put its forces within an easy striking distance of Israel.

In fact, a very easy striking distance.
