The News on the Israel Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

Numerous stabbing attempts, shootings, and “rock” and Molotov attacks have marked the last 24 hours in Israel–none of which you will read or hear about in the mainline news media. A few of the examples:

*at the Al-Fawwar Junction, a Palestinian terrorist armed with a knife was captured as he tried to carry out an attack. Near Karmei Tzur, a Palestinian terrorist armed with a knife was shot and killed by a security officer who was wounded in the attack (later, PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas called the family of the dead terrorist to praise him). Yet another stabbing incident took place at the Hasno Junction on Route 60; the Palestinian terrorist was captured.

*”rock” and Molotov attacks targeting Israeli civilians and security personnel were carried out by Palestinian terrorists at Tapuach, Migdalot, Mount Hevron, Qalil, the Zif Junction, Hizma, Har Bracha, on Gilad Road between Madma and Burin, Halhul, Bethlehem, Tikkun, Shechem, Moshav Naama, Givat Assaf, the Hevron Hills, on Route 465 near Meir Spring, Elon Moreh, Nabi Saleh, Kiryat Arba, on the road between Ariel and Tapuach, Sebastia, Neve Tzuf, Tekoa, Hevron, Migdal Oz, Hawara, and Jenin.

*at Einav IDF soldiers came under fire from Palestinian terrorists.

*in Salem a Palestinian terrorist armed with an IED (pipe bomb) attempted to gain entrance to the Samaria Military Court but was apprehended.

More news about the recent murders of Rabbis Shevach and Ben Gal . . .

The Hamas cell that carried out the murder of Rabbi Shevach at Havat Gilad was organized by Fursan Khalifa, a terrorist who was released in the Gilad Shalit exchange back in 2011. Khalifa is in charge of Hamas terrorist operations in Judea and Samaria.

How many Israelis have now been murdered by terrorists who were released in the Shalit exchange?

The Palestinian media in Hevron is reporting that both the terrorist who killed Rabbi Shevach and the one who killed Rabbi Ben Gal were “homosexuals who were atoning for their sexual tendencies.”

The attempt to declare sovereignty over Judea and Samaria stalls . . .

In fact, it has not so much as stalled as hit a Netanyahu roadblock. The Prime Minister is not approving anything in Judea and Samaria anymore without the express approval of U.S. President Donald Trump, and so it was announced yesterday that until that approval is forthcoming no sovereignty bill will be voted on in the Knesset.

Nevertheless, one of the foremost proponents of the sovereignty bill, Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel of the Jewish Home Party, declared yesterday: “Mr. Prime Minister, the time has come. The Likud Central Committee approved the sovereignty bill, and all the parties in the coalition are in favor of it. Give the green light to move forward! We will act with all our political and public strength so that this law will indeed pass this Sunday.”

Speaking of President Trump . . .

It was reported in Washington yesterday that visiting Guatemalan president Jimmy Morales was thanked by Trump for declaring Guatemala’s intention to move the Guatemalan Embassy to Jerusalem.

Separately, in an interview with the Israel Hayom newspaper, Trump said that declaring Jerusalem the capital of Israel and moving the Embassy is one of the “highlights” of his presidency so far.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Israel “Left”: The Personification of Scum

As you may or may not know dear reader, the Irish government has been considering legislation that would ban the import of any goods or services from Judea and Samaria.

This past week, a nauseating letter supporting that proposed law appeared in the Irish Times.  It reads in part:

“We urge Ireland to support any legislation that will help enforce differentiation between Israel per se and the settlements in the occupied territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The Israeli occupation of the territories beyond the 1967 borders, ongoing for more than 50 years with no end in sight, is not only unjust but also stands in violation of numerous UN resolutions . . . We are convinced that Israel’s ongoing occupation of the Palestinian land in the West Bank and East Jerusalem is morally and strategically unsustainable, is detrimental to peace, and poses a threat to the security of Israel itself.

It has been enabled by the leniency of the international community, whose rhetoric regarding the dire situation in Palestine has not been matched by appropriate action.

While Ireland, along with the rest of the EU, considers the occupation illegal, it continues to economically sustain it by trading with illegal Israeli settlements established in clear and direct violation of international law. The occupation has been correctly identified by successive Irish governments as a major obstacle to peace, which we believe remains attainable should we see the termination of the occupation and the realization of the two-state paradigm that would lead to the emergence of a sovereign State of Palestine alongside Israel.

A few representative signers of this false and disgusting diatribe were these bastions of the Israel “left”:

Uri Avnery, founder of Gush Shalom peace movement

Ilan Baruch and Alon Liel, former Israel Ambassadors to various countries

Roman Bronfman is a former lecturer at the Hebrew University, former journalist for Maariv, and former Knesset legislator

Yael Dayan, daughter of Moshe Dayan  a member of the Knesset between 1992 and 2003, and from 2008 to 2013 the chair of Tel Aviv city council

Avrum Burg is a former member of the Knesset, former chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel, former Speaker of the Knesset, and former Interim President of Israel

Naomi Chazan, a past president of the New Israel Fund

David Tartakover and Miki Kratsman, Israeli artists

The good news is that the proposed law has been stymied at least temporarily, apparently by the Trump Administration, which pointed out to the Irish that passage of the law would make Ireland in violation of U.S. Export Administration Guidelines. If the law were to pass, U.S. companies would not be able to engage in economic activity with Ireland.

And so, the proposed law has been frozen for now. But that will not stop Israeli leftists from parading around the globe looking for any and every opportunity to delegitimize and demean Israel.

In your humble servant’s opinion, these people are the personification of scum. It is perfectly democratic to disagree with the government and work for change within Israel; however, is is morally degrading to try to subvert the government by acting outside of Israel.
