The News on the Israel Street
The two best quotes from yesterday . . .
“From time to time a decision is made that needs to be reconsidered.
In the past 24 hours, I have held many consultations with Interior Minister Aryeh Deri, with professionals and representatives of residents of southern Tel Aviv. I listened attentively . . . As a result, and after evaluating a new balance of advantages and disadvantages, I decided to cancel the agreement [with the United Nations about infiltrators in Israel].
Despite the growing legal and international difficulties, we will continue to act with determination to exhaust all the possibilities available to us to remove the infiltrators. At the same time we will continue to seek additional solutions.”
PM Netanyahu in a post yesterday announcing the cancellation of the Infiltration Agreement with the loathsome UNHCR.
Yesterday, your humble servant blogged that he hoped the PM would come to his senses.
However, what has followed has been a torrent of abuse aimed at Netanyahu from the Israeli and American “left” led by the New Israel Fund and its cohorts.
Which led to another wonderful Netanyahu posting last night:
“The New Israel Fund is a foreign organization that receives funding from foreign governments and elements hostile to Israel, such as the George Soros funds. The NIF’s ultimate goal is to erase Israel’s Jewish character and turn it into a state of all its citizens, alongside a Palestinian nation-state free of Jews on the 1967 lines with Jerusalem as its capital.
For decades the fund has funded anti-Zionist and pro-Palestinian organizations, including those who slander IDF soldiers such as Breaking the Silence and B’Tselem and those who fight for Palestinian terrorists such as the Adallah organization.
I do not know any Western democracy, especially the United States, which over time was prepared to tolerate hostile activity funded by foreign countries, as has been happening here in Israel with the fund for decades.
I have therefore asked coalition chairman Dudi Amsalem to lead the process of establishing a parliamentary committee of inquiry into the activities of the New Israel Fund, which endangers the security and future of the State of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people.”
On top of this request, the government has put into motion this morning a new Basic Law: the “Prevention of Infiltration Law” which will untie the government’s hands when it come to ridding the state of illegal infiltrators. Because it will be a Basic Law, it cannot be ruled invalid by the Supreme Court or High Court of Justice.
Palestinian terrorism on the Gaza Border . . .
—Another Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed on the Gaza Border while attacking IDF soldiers yesterday. This particular terrorist, Ahmed Arafa, was the commander of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) in Gaza.
The announcement was made by the DFLP itself who proclaimed Arafa as “one of the most prominent fighters in the Gaza Strip.”
This makes a total of 19 Palestinians who have been killed while planting bombings or shooting at our soldiers. 16 of them were members of terror organizations that subsequently announced their deaths; the other three were freelance terrorists who were probably trying to establish their credentials so that they could join a terror organization.
–A call for more Palestinian terrorism from Bill Clinton . . .
In part of the disgusting interview (see Today’s Blog below) with former U.S. President Bill Clinton that was released yesterday, Clinton gave a not-so-subtle callout to the Palestinians to increase their attacks against Israelis:
“The peace process is not progressing – Israel sees the Palestinians as weak.”
Thank you Mr. Former President. For endangering our lives again. Just like you did with the hideous Oslo Accords 24 years ago. More than 1200 Israeli men, women, and children were blown to pieces that time.
–The extraordinary scenes of Palliwood on the Gaza border . . .
You have to hand it to the Palestinians. They may be the most infantile population in the world, but they surely know how to act.
The fake scenes that they have been playing out for the international cameramen positioned on the Gaza side of the border have been extraordinary. Extraordinarily funny.
Here is a link to your humble servant’s favorite one from yesterday. As you watch the short clip, note that one gunshot seems to hit 5 terrorists at the same time. They all fall down in different directions clutching one limb or another. Their fellow terrorists rush to pick them up and carry them out of camera range, but none of them are bleeding anywhere. Here is the link.
Palestinian terrorism in Judea and Samaria . . .
—We have often remarked on this blog how the Israel police will go to any length to obscure the truth about terror attacks. Remember the bulldozer attack yesterday morning at Gitti Avasar?
A Palestinian terrorist tried to run over a group IDF soldiers and hitchhikers, but fortunately his car hit posts designed to stop such attacks. When he got out of the car and started to run, he was shot dead.
If you can believe this, police investigators who arrived on the scene shortly thereafter “determined” that because he had no weapon in his possession and because the car was stolen, this was not a terror attack.
No weapon in his possession and driving a stolen car? Here’s a news flash for the police: the stolen car was the weapon. Undoubtedly the police will reverse their “determination” in the coming week.
–Other Palestinian terror attacks in Judea and Samaria: the worst occurred at Har Bracha where terrorists set fire to a military outpost and attacked motorists with “rocks” and Molotovs. Fortunately, no Israelis were wounded, but the terrorists escaped.
Other attacks were carried out at Hevron, Tekoa, Qalqilya, along Road 443, and at more than 20 other locations. These attacks were reported by Israeli citizens to rotter, hakolhayehudi, and Rescue Judea and Samaria.
The ongoing collusion between the Jordanian government and the Israel Police on the Temple Mount . . .
Yesterday morning, the Jordanian government filed an official protest with the Israel Foreign Ministry harshly criticizing an Israel court decision permitting Jewish Passover prayers at the gates to the Temple Mount.
In the afternoon, 4 Jews were arrested on the Temple Mount yesterday when they uttered the Shema: “Hear O Israel, the Lord is God, the Lord is one.” Here is a blurry screen shot of one of the men, Meir Mizrachi being led away by Israeli policemen.
Interestingly, Mizrachi is an Arab convert to Judaism.
The Extraordinary Clinton Attempt To Undermine Netanyahu
Of course every reader of israelstreet knows how President Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry did all they could to defeat PM Netanyahu during the last election campaign in 2015 through the formation of such organizations as V15.
What we really didn’t know until yesterday was how far back attempts to throw Netanyahu under the bus actually go.
In a remarkable interview broadcast on Israel’s left wing Channel 10, former President Bill Clinton revealed that he and his administration tried to intervene in the 1996 Israel elections by supporting Shimon Peres against Benjamin Netanyahu.
In the interview Clinton candidly explained his furtive attempt:
“I tried to do it in a way that I would not be openly involved. I tried to help Peres because I thought he was more supportive of the peace process, and I tried to do it in a way that served, in my opinion, Israel’s interest . . .”
Though Clinton does not openly discuss it, one can only wonder about the degree of collusion between the Clinton Administration and the Peres campaign.
But the striking thing is how this effort at determining the course of an Israeli election is so similar to that which took place in 2015. It makes one wonder if Obama and Kerry consulted Clinton on the best way to undermine Netanyahu. Your humble servant suspects they did.
Perhaps the most nauseating aspect of Clinton’s description is how he presumed to know better what was in Israel’s interest than Israelis. Whether we are talking about Clinton, Obama, Kerry, the New Israel Fund, the U.S. Reform Movement, J Street, the European Union, the United Nations, and a host of other foreign entities, the utter gall on display is breathtaking.
But wait, there was more in the interview.
See if you can wrap your mind around this Clinton description of Netanyahu after his attempt to defeat Netanyahu failed and Netanyahu came to the White House:
“He wanted me to know that he knew I did not support him and that he defeated us anyway, and behaved in a manner that is very characteristic of Bibi . . . I was not so angry, I was just embarrassed by [his] chutzpah . . .”
There is no end to the Bill Clinton’s sickening, overweening hubris.
**Addendum. One cannot escape the irony of the Clinton colluding with the Peres Campaign to interfere in an Israeli election, and Clinton’s wife accusing the Russians of colluding with President Trump in the 2016 American election against her.
