Special Notice:

June 5, 1967-June 10, 1967: Six days that changed history

June 6 is a day of great meaning around the world and in Israel. June 6, 1944 was D-Day–the day the Allies landed in Normandy and began the fight to defeat the Nazis in Europe.

June 6, 1967 was a day of exhilaration in Israel.

In the morning, the IDF announced that Israeli jets had destroyed 374 Arab aircraft and therefore had complete control of the air. Israeli ground forces captured Rafah and El Arish in the Sinai, opening the road to the Suez Canal. In the tank battle that ensued, Israel emerged victorious knocking out 40 Egyptian tanks while losing 19.

The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In Judea and Samaria:

*A Palestinian terrorist member of the infamous Tamimi family threw a rock that struck and wounded an IDF soldier in the head in an attack near Neve Tzuf. He was shot and killed.

*A Palestinian terrorist attempted to carry out a bulldozer attack with a tractor at the entrance to the Jewish community of Immanuel. He was captured by police.

*There have been “rock” and Molotov attacks on Israeli men, women, and children at Adam Square, Hevron, Azzun, Tekoa, Kiryat Arba, Peduel, Itamar, Elon Moreh, and at a host of other locations.

On the Gaza border:

*Palestinian terrorists fired a missile into the Sha’ar Hanegev region early this morning. Initially, the IDF claimed it was a false alarm as it always does; now, troops are looking for the missile.

*More fires were set by Molotov kites; one of the worst is at Ofakim.

The Europeans fight for Iran . . .

We all know how the European Union is fighting tooth and nail to maintain the Iranian Nuclear Weapons Appeasement Agreement (JCPOA), and we reported yesterday how Iran has announced it is dramatically increasing the number of centrifuges it is using to process uranium–and that it is putting into operation a newer advanced centrifuge which will process uranium more quickly.

Yesterday, the EU officially approved the Iranian centrifuge actions. Maja Kocijancic, the spokeswoman for EU FM Federica Mogherini, blathered: “Following a first assessment, the announced steps per se are not a violation of the JCPOA.”

In other words, according to Mogherini’s office and the European Union, the Iranian Nuclear Weapons Appeasement Agreement gives Iran has every right to increase and accelerate uranium processing.

Speaking of the Iranian Nuclear Weapons Appeasement Agreement . . .

Word comes from a committee report issued by the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday, that the Obama Administration licensed Iran to access the U.S. financial system in order to change Omani currency to U.S. dollars back in 2015.

To put this a different way, the Obama Administration authorized Iranian money laundering–and then lied about it to Congress.

What a surprise.

Speaking of no surprises . . .

A steely-eyed Netanyahu with a smug looking Macron in Paris today.

A steely-eyed Netanyahu with a smug looking Macron in Paris today.

Is there any other word except “humiliating” to describe French President Macron’s behavior at a joint news conference with PM Netanyahu yesterday in Paris?

To begin with, Macron fraudulently declared that moving the American Embassy to Jerusalem provoked the violence on the Gaza border saying that the move led “to people dying” and should not be cause for Israeli “celebration.”

He then proceeded to castigate President Trump for withdrawing from the Iranian Nuclear Appeasement Agreement, and said that all parties should “stabilise the situation and not give into this escalation which would lead to only one thing: conflict.”

What a joke. If the Agreement did anything, it totally destabilized the Middle East unleashing Iran to fund terrorists from Lebanon to Yemen. It is sad to see the direction that France is taking under Macron.

TODAY’S BLOG:

We Cry For You Argentina

Your humble servant would be remiss if he failed to report that the subject on everyone’s mind and in every conversation today is the soccer (football) match that has been cancelled between Argentina and Israel.

30,000 tickets had already been sold for the “friendly” which was to have taken place in Teddy Kollek Stadium in Jerusalem.

So what happened?

As usual, we should begin at the beginning. Here’s the sequence of events:

1. Argentina agreed to come play its final World Cup warm-up game in Israel after receiving $2.1 million dollars from Israel. As soon as the game was announced, there was an outcry from the Palestinians led by Palestinian soccer head Jibril Rajoub and their friends in the BDS movement.

2. The game was originally scheduled to take place in Haifa, but was changed to Jerusalem. How the location was changed is a subject of dispute today, but it appears to have been the joint decision of PM Netanyahu and Culture Minister Miri Regev.

3. The Palestinian/BDS campaign against the game intensified. Argentina’s two main players, Javier Masherano and Leo Messi, received numerous death threats–and so did their families. Those protesting the game began using blood-stained jerseys of Argentinian soccer players:

4. Finally, in response to the personal intervention of Messi and Masherano, the game was cancelled.

5. Attempts by PM Netanyahu to intervene with the Argentina President Macri have not been successful. The saying in Argentina is that “President Macri needs Messi more than Messi needs Macri.”

So where does all of this leave us today?

The Palestinians celebrated the news and thanked Messi for his decision (this, after their supporters and minions threatened repeatedly to kill him, his father, and their families).

The Argentinian Football Association which took the Israeli money and spent it apparently doesn’t have any money to pay it back.

Football fans in Israel are bitterly disappointed.

And some compromise is in the works. One being bandied about would involve Argentina coming to Israel after the World Cup and playing a game, and playing another game with Israel at some undesignated neutral site chosen by Israel.

Stay tuned for further details.
