The News on the Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

It was another day in which our forces on the Gaza border narrowly escaped being blown up by explosives planted and thrown by Palestinian terrorists.

And another day in which incendiary balloons launched from Gaza set fires that ravaged the countryside of southern Israel.

This is a photo of yet another fire in the Be’eri Forest yesterday:

The Be'eri area has been particularly hard hit in recent months.

And another one of the fire at Nahal Oz:

Fires and missiles are part of life for the people of Nahal Oz which is right on the Gaza border.

As if the fires on the border are not enough, one incendiary balloon made it all the way to within 7 km of Ben Gurion Airport yesterday.

It sounds like a silly question, but what will the government do if the airport comes under balloon attack?

Palestinian terrorism in July . . .

According to the monthly report from Shin Bet (Israel’s security agency), Palestinian terror attacks increased by 15% in July with 255 documented cases.

If this number seems small in comparison to what we report here on israelstreet, it is. Long ago, in order to keep the terrorist tally down, Shin Bet stopped including “rock” and Molotov attacks on Israelis in Judea and Samaria.

Given that there are more than 30 such attacks everyday means that if they were added, the total number of terror attacks would increase by more than 1000 per month.

It should be remembered that two Israelis were murdered during July, our soldier who was killed by a sniper on the Gaza border and a civilian who was stabbed to death in Samaria.

Still more crime figures within the Israeli-Arab population . . .

According to police reports, crime within the Israeli-Arab population continues to spiral out of control.

Despite the fact that only 20.9% of the country is Israeli-Arab, 59% of all murders, 58% of all arson cases, 55% of all cases of attempted murder, 47% of all robberies, and 32% of all property crimes were committed by Israeli-Arabs.

These crimes (with the exception of robberies) are primarily crimes Israeli-Arabs commit against other Israeli-Arabs.

All of this is particularly worrisome made more so by the disproportionate number of Israeli-Arab women who are victims of murder, attempted murder, and assault.

The report was highly critical of local Israeli-Arab police stations which have an abysmal record of arresting criminals and bringing indictments. For example, at the Nazareth station, only 3.7% of crimes reported resulted in arrests and indictments last year.

More weapons repositories were blown up in five explosions near the Al-Mazza Airport in the Damascus countryside overnight.

According to some reports from the area, the explosions were the result of an Israeli attack; the Syrians are claiming this morning that they occurred due to a “technical malfunction.”

Elsewhere in Syria . . .

Anonymous Iranian sources claimed yesterday that Iran has relocated ballistic missiles that it positioned in Syria to Iraq in fear of an impending U.S.-Israeli strike.

By this morning, the Iranians declared that no missiles have been moved. Satellite photos released in the last few days show that the Iranians are busy building ballistic missile facilities (to produce and launch) in Syria.

TODAY’S BLOG:

The Nexus of Evil:

Supporting Iran and Supporting UNRWA

First of all we are compelled to point out today that the sky did not fall after the Trump Administration announced its decision to defund UNRWA. You will recall that our ever-trembling IDF General Command had warned of a massive outbreak of Palestinian violence.

That violence did not come.

What has come are nauseatingly predictable reactions from the Palestinians and their friends.

For their part, the Palestinians continue to act the part of the hysterical, entitled victim with Mahmoud Abbas and his cronies accusing the U.S. of ‘violating international law” and “violating the rights of the Palestinian people.”

That a country reducing money it pays to the U.N. violates international law is patently absurd as is the idea that the Palestinians have a “right” to the money.

For their part, the friends of the Palestinians–led by the European Union–are falling all over themselves to keep UNRWA afloat. Led by Germany, the EU declared yesterday: “The EU is committed to secure the continuation and sustainability of the agency’s work which is vital for stability and security in the region.”

This is precisely the same excuse that the EU is using to “save” the Iranian Nuclear Appeasement Agreement.

UNRWA is vital for stability and security? Who is kidding whom?

UNRWA’s work is only vital to keep itself and hatred of Israel alive.

One last observation.

It is remarkably telling to your humble servant that exactly the same countries that are fighting to maintain the Iranian Nuclear Appeasement Agreement by circumventing American sanctions on Iran are the same countries that are leading the fight to keep UNRWA alive.

It is obvious what the two actions have in common, but let’s state it for the record. By supporting Iran and supporting UNRWA, these countries are working furiously to undermine Israel.

It is a nexus of pure, unadulterated evil.
