The News On The Israeli Street

Palestinian terror in the last 24 hours . . .

In Judea and Samaria:

*Palestinian terrorists attempted to burn down the security fence at Beitar Illit.

*Palestinian terrorists threw IEDs at Jewish worshipers at Rachel’s Tomb near Bethlehem.

*Palestinian terrorists throwing Molotovs and “rocks” assaulted Israeli men, women, and children at Beit Haggai, on Road 443 near Beit Ur al-Fawqa, near Karnei Shomron on Road 55, Ni’lin, Efrat, the Hevron Hills, Har Gilo, on the Gush Etzion road to Hevron, Beit Ummar, and at Tekoa near the Hatti Junction among other places.

On the Gaza border:

(see Today’s Blog)

Palestinian terrorists started 5 major fires with incendiary balloons launched from Gaza; the worst were at Shukda, Nahal Oz, and Kissufim.

There were several successful attempts by terrorists to breach the border fence. In each case, the terrorists cut through the fence, destroyed IDF equipment, and returned to Gaza.

Explosions, which could be heard as far north as here in Ashdod, struck Deir al-Balah in Gaza. According to Hamas, the explosions were the result of a “work accident” involving a weapons laboratory. Apparently numerous “workers” (read: “terrorists”) were killed or wounded.

Islamic Jihad has said that it will bring 20,000 “people” to the border fence on Friday to join an expected 20,000 more brought by Hamas. The obvious hope is that the two terror groups can ramp up the violence and increase their respective casualty counts (there is a competition between the two to see which can accumulate the more casualties).

Your humble servant can only add: the more terrorist casualties the better.

More good news about Palestinian casualties . . .

The self-proclaimed Army for the Liberation of Palestine has suffered heavy losses in the past week in fighting against Islamic State in Syria.

So many Palestinian “soldiers” have been killed that demonstrations were launched near Damascus yesterday by Palestinian families complaining that their sons were being forced to fight and die with the Syrian Army in the southern desert of Suwayda.

Israel reaches out to Indonesia . . .

In the wake of PM Netanyahu’s unprecedented meeting with the Vice President of Indonesia last week at the United Nations, Israel is now sending a medical team to the earthquake-tsunami zone.

It is often forgotten that Indonesia is the country with the most Muslims in the world. We have no diplomatic relations with Indonesia so Israelis have been unable to visit there because of an Indonesian government ban.

Do you remember the international outcry? . . .

Over Susiya–another Palestinian encampment (this one near Hevron)? If so, you will recall that the U.N. and European Union decried Israeli plans to evacuate the illegal Palestinian squatters there because they said that Susiya was “Palestinian.”

coinsusyaIn the past month, archaeologists have uncovered abundant evidence attesting to the Jewishness of Susiya. Most recently, coins belonging to the second year of the Bar Kochba revolt (in 132-3 CE), and a mikveh from the Hasmonean period (@120 BCE) have been found.

Do you think that these discoveries matter to the U.N. and E.U.? Of course not; they are so immersed in the fraudulent Palestinian narrative that no discovery could shake them.

The Merkel outrage . . .

It was just over 16 months ago that German Chancellor Angela Merkel refused to come to Israel because of “Israel’s settlement policy.” Given the fact that virtually no construction has gone on during the last 9 years of Netanyahu’s reign, Merkel’s excuse was a particularly disingenuous one.

Yesterday–with no change whatsoever in Israel’s construction policy in Judea and Samaria–Merkel showed up on our doorstop.

But not without first letting it be known at the last minute that if Israel proceeded with the bulldozing of the Palestinian settlement of Khan Al-Ahmar yesterday as sanctioned by the Israel High Court, she would not come.

What unbelievable gall.

And guess what? The destruction of Khan Al-Ahmar was delayed for another few days.

What your humble servant wants to know is why we let the Europeans get away with treating us like some second-rate country?

It is way past time to tell the Merkels of the world that this is our country; they have no right to interfere, and if they don’t like it they don’t have to come.

TODAY’S BLOG:

“Our Government Is Using Our Soldiers As Human Shields.”

The sentence that is the title of today’s blog appeared anonymously on a social media website yesterday. It was contained in an angry post which excoriated the government and the IDF General Command for leaving our soldiers out to dry on the Gaza border.

That post also included the following letter from an anonymous soldier stationed on the border. We are printing this letter in its entirety today because it eloquently expresses the situation in which our brave soldiers find themselves:

—–

“I am a fighter who is currently stationed on the border with Gaza, and I think you should know what is going on here. I see the news that simply ignores what is happening in this sector!

These are not “disturbances”, this is a war. I go home and tell people about it, but they have no idea what really happens just a short distance from their homes!

We have been dealing day and night with new and sophisticated Hamas units that throw at us hundreds of grenades, explosive devices, Molotov cocktails, and live ammunition from within groups of women and children so that we will not return fire.

Not that we could return fire anyway because because the new open-fire orders will not permit us to return fire even as the skies and land all around us are exploding with huge explosives and the air is thick with fires. We are prevented from returning fire to sources and instead of attacking, we hide because of alerts about sniper fire.

For a month, I have been coughing up a black phlegm from the
the smoke of the hundreds of tires they burn. I am sure this is causing permanent health damage.

We also cannot approach the fence because of the explosive charges they put into everything, even in the handles of flags.

Hamas understood and learned our weaknesses and exploited the situation. It sends children to break through the fence; of course we retreat,  and then they loot and burn the positions.

Our government has abandoned us on the battlefield. We feel alone. This week there were alerts about the balloons with chemical weapons!!! And silence again.

I am unable to tell everything that goes on here. The situation is much more difficult and complicated than I have written. But calling it a “disturbance” is wrong; it’s a one-sided war of war but war !

I heard the defense minister boast that we killed 8 terrorists on the weekend, but remember there were more than 20,000 terrorists in those encounters that threw more than 200 hand grenades and explosive devices at us. And only 8 were killed? Now multiply that by a week, and you see our problem.

Finally, it is not true that we do not have wounded, maybe not seriously injured, but there are wounded soldiers all the time. Yet these casualties are not reported by the IDF.”

Your humble servant thinks this anonymous soldier says much more articulately than I what we on israelstreet have been trying to say about the situation our forces face on the Gaza border. A government that does not support them; a Defense Minister that is nowhere to be found; and an IDF General Command that takes the weapons from their hands and then suppresses information about what is happening–this is what our brave men and women have to face.

Abominably, they have essentially become human shields for the rest of us.

Continuing Announcement

During the month of Tishrei, israelstreet has embarked on a fundraising campaign, during which we hope to cover all of our website expenses for the year. Our goal is to raise $5000.

We are currently more than half way to that goal.

We urge you to consider making either a one-time contribution or a monthly recurring one. Please click on the “Donate button” in the right hand column to help us continue getting the news out about Israel–news that you may not get anywhere else.  Thank you for your consideration!
